Oscars 2023

Tár wasn’t a film I loved but you can’t deny the sound design wasn’t amazing, ffs.

Yeah, that level of campaigning usually works for firming up people there’s a conversation about already, feels like the campaigning has put this on the radar in the first place though

Every year there’s one of the technicals that just definitively misses out the clear standout achievement in the field and it is very often Sound Design

Funny how loads of directors and actors really care about winning oscars even though most people who watch films recognise that they’re pretty much meaningless. They need to get over themselves imo

The industry loves self-obsessing!

3/5 nominations for Best Supporting Actress being women of colour is a very good thing.

Going to make a big difference to your career because the sort of people who give you money to make films definitely do care about Oscars. (Also, I guess the point is that people who don’t really watch films tend to watch Oscar nominated/winning stuff when they pick one film to watch every now and again.)

Someone(s) will try to outdo Will Smith in public spectacle terms in the hopes it’ll increase their ratings.

idk if it counts as a dark horse candidate, I think Women Talking has a decent chance at Best Picture. But my deep Oscar cynicism thinks it’ll probably go to The Fabelmans. Also why I don’t think Everything Everywhere will do well on the night.

It’ll probably win Adapted Screenplay, really don’t think it’s winning anything else though

If you hate it that’s just as good as if you like it IMO
