Finished it, what a game! Absolutely beautiful!
Had a nice bit of time to get started with the DLC. The absolute brass bollocks on them making the whole introduction to that new section so fucking obtuse! (part of my difficulty was with getting used to the controls - and smashing the satellite / repairing my thrusters while an autopilot was set and stranding myself).
Forgot how fun it was to just explore. Part of me is, like, “how am I going to figure this out?” but I’m remembering the great thing about this game is how it makes you want to look around and see what’s what. More games should be like this.
I have smashed the satellite by accident in the main game, got a trophy for it, but I’ve got a feeling after listening to the Cane & Rinse podcast that I will have no map as the satellite is smashed? I am still yet to buy the DLC.
Totally stuck on the DLC right now. I’m sure there’s something blatant I’m missing
I found it really tough and eventually gave up, but having watched the playthroughs there’s a lot of incredible stuff if you can persevere.
Where you at?
I seem to be uncovering things very gradually - I think one big issue so far is that I’ve done like six explorations but only actually ended the loop once! I kept dying because of getting electrocuted or getting aquatically yeeted into rocks.
I feel like some of the puzzles are a lot crueller than in the main game. Like just the first solution to get to the new environment involved me looking up a guide, and re: the artefact
I’ve been going all over the shop trying to find out what you do with it. There’s trigger buttons come up in the corner, so I assumed I had to point it at something and hit the triggers - but I looked a guide up and apparently you just need to sleep by one of the tower fires while holding it. Doooooyyyy
Ah you just needed to explore more of the environment and you would’ve found a thing to tell you that
I think I’ve somehow figured out the run. Need to eat lunch soon so as to hype myself up for the big attempt
Really liked how this came together in the end - even if I had to use a guide for some of the more obscure puzzles (an adventure game classic, let’s face it) - but I couldn’t even begin to think how you must design something this intricate and yet so full of character and story. Like it doesn’t just feel like a vehicle for puzzles even though… it kind of is that
Just started this. Was congratulating myself on nailing a descent onto brittle hollow and then just got yeeted out of it by its oncoming moon. Great stuff
It is one of the greatest games ever made.
Take your time with it and please update here.
Oops, been caning it. Getting the maddest tetris effect. Been pretty good for discovering at least one thing per loop. Such a rich, rewarding experience
Just had my first go on this. Excited getting into space… ended up in the sun.
Edit: really enjoying this, despite repeatedly falling into the black hole on Brittle Hollow. Slowly managing to land without then needing to repair the ship.
Back in the pilot’s seat for the dlc. Feel a bit weird and queasy when I look up for too long in the new area. I’d forgotten how brilliantly this game conjures up a range of atmospheres. Those feelings when the end of loop music kicks in…
I should pick this up. Post how it goes please.
You’ll have to play it some time! Not quite at the end yet, but it’s an interestingly different experience to main Outer Wilds.
Only one ‘planet’ but it’s seriously dense, and the way the game plays with it as you discover more is amazing. It feels like there are more ‘puzzles’ than in the main game, and even mid way in you’re doing stuff similar in complexity to the final loop in the main game.
Quite a different atmosphere to the main game too, very creepy, bleak and dismal. Kind of like another beloved series of games
And Echoes of the Eye is done. What an experience, a great flipping of the main game’s script in so many ways.
I loved how the new species were so different to the Nomai - unknowable, scary and yet fearful, attached to the past more than the future
The actual ending was excellent and nicely bittersweet. But the stuff leading up to it was fascinatingly weird and troubling, the building feeling of sickly dread and waste, the whole being dead but alive in a simulation, and what the Stranger’s Inhabitants were experiencing. I felt like my brain needed a shower afterwards.
I thought the actual gameplay and difficulty was really good overall. There’s a couple of bits where I got slightly stuck for a loop or two, but eventually worked it out. I found most of the bigger puzzles were pretty satisfying to work out and used the mechanics in a logical way. I thought the controversial stealth sections weren’t too bad, had logical solutions and added a nice, tense twist. I won’t miss that takeoff and landing sequence at the start of each loop though.
I think it might be time to take the DLC on soon. Getting that itch…
I played it on PS4 but is there any carry over from your previous save, or am I ok to buy it on my Series S?
And also, do people recommend the horror or non-horror version?
It is currently on sale on the PS store. I’m almost ready to commit myself to the game again.
No idea about your questions though. I can’t image a PS save would work on an XBOX.
