You know how when Birdy did that anaemic cover of Skinny Love and for a little while it became the version cited whenever someone did a version of X Factor? Imagine that, but far worse both in terms of it being a much bigger hit (not just in chart terms either, Robyn’s has 350m Spotify listeners which is highly creditable if the cover didn’t have not far off four times as many), it colonising certain radio groups’ stations that would never so much as have heard of the original, and the transposing into full-on acoustic slow meaningful sadboi.
