haven’t read the article yet (saving it for a special time)

are powder in the top 10?

was referring to Blur the album as opposed to Blur the band. that particular record belongs in a different reductive subset.

ah right, sorry. Misunderstood. I agree then.

Any news on Powder?

I thought I was the only person in the world who knew Powder!

Makes me feel old that I fancied the lead singer (Pearl?) and now her daughter is famous.

I’ve got a box of records in which releases by Powder, Deadstar, Bis, Gouge and others can all be found. I like to think of it as my shrine to failed dreams.

Mind you, Bis make a comeback recently didn’t they?

the band? or is there a particular chemical substance you’re after?

Yep, I’ll probably do the same. After my 1001 albums thing (659 to go). This morning’s actually looking brilliant: Patti Smith - Horses, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here, Queen - A Night At The Opera.

Great call on Only Forever by Puressence, used to love that record.

with you on Geneva and Strangelove.
I Should Coco though-when one can bear to sit through Alright- is hands down the best 'Grass album… Sofa… Rooster… Fuzz… Lenny… etc

Yes, totally agree.

Bis have never really gone away, although they’ve had the odd sabbatical I think. They were called Data Panik for a while but they’re still plugging away. A long way from Kandy Pop now though.

Did Powder ever do anything apart from the chorus of Afrodisiac?

Modern life is rubbish should be number one, ill argue that to the death!

lol, the political side of this thread is basically what i wrote my dissertation about.

Round 2

You ever heard of a band from Tennessee called The Silver Seas? Apparently they have some Britpop leaning and good reviews.

There’s a great Swedish band called kent, they were briefly nicknamed Swedish Radiohead because their 3rd and 4th albums from 1997 and 1999 sounded like Radiohead’s The Bends and they also made an inferior English version of both of those, I’d probably argue that Hagnesta Hill is better than The Bends.

Also there’s an Icelandic band called Leaves with a pretty good debut album from around 2002 but their sound is closer to the post-Britpop of Embrace, Travis, Keane, and co.

I really like Turbonegro’s cover of ‘Back In Denim’ [No. 50 on the list]. Never heard the orginial. Obviously.

What makes ‘Everything Must Go’ Britpop, but ‘The Holy Bible’ not?

No way is holy bible a britpop album it’s far too seething maaaan

The answer to this question is A Design For Life.
