What a day yesterday, eh. World record showboating pole vault a hell of a way to top it off.
I’m sure there’s lots happening but I’m mostly here for the women’s bouldering semi-final starting at 9:00.
It’s difficult to see anyone beating absolute GOAT Janja Garnbret
but there’s always a chance. Worth noting for those unfamiliar with the world circuit that most climbers tend to be stronger at one of the two disciplines, so don’t expect the top 8 after today to be the ones that go through. For example Ai Mori
and particularly Jessica Pilz
are exceptional lead climbers so could move well up the order when it’s time for lead. Conversely some others such as Oriane Bertone
are much stronger boulderers so will want to be in the top few positions going into the lead semi-final.
There’s two British athletes, but chances of either getting through to the final aren’t as strong as with Toby Roberts in the men’s. Molly Thompson-Smith is lovely but difficult to see her getting through given the competition (she’s likely to be stronger in lead). Erin McNeice is still quite new to the circuit but improving rapidly so could potentially pull off an upset in getting through to the final.
Also men’s speed climbing seeding and elimination rounds a bit later.

Other things to look out for:
What colour is Nonaka Miho’s hair going to be?
How big will Seo Chaehyun’s bow be?
How much is Oriane going to hype up the crowd?
Might miss Oriane’s climbs because ugh meetings, so can someone please cheer her on for me. She absolutely loves getting the crowd hyped so I suspect can sense vibes from home and I would hate to feel responsible for her not getting through. Really wish it wasn’t a combined competition and then there wouldn’t be any doubt about it.

Armamd Duplantis is in the Swedish TV studio being interviewed live right now
He looks rough as fuck and can hardly string a sentence together, his voice is all raspy and broken. He’s clearly been up all night & they just threw him in the shower and IV’d him a few espressos about half an hour ago. Disaster interview really, poor lad
They’re asking such dull questions too

Does anyone ever shout “HANDBALL” at the games like the crowd do in football? Could be a good bit. Could already have been posted in an earlier thread.
Denmark goalie’s brilliant, properly turned this around

Ditto for Hodgkinson on the radio an hour ago, amplified by the fact that she and seemingly everybody who’s ever known her are so defiantly boringly normal

My discovery is showing the equestrian when I try to watch the climbing - is that happening for anyone else?
