I really enjoyed the Groove Denied tour he did (although I wouldn’t have said no to a couple of Jicks tunes)
oh yeah, i prob should make that a bit clearer. Seen him a few times and its been fantastic, just there’s been a couple of occasional ones that were just a bit of a slog in honesty. The hard quartet show in london near the album launch was hard work too imo

Woah. Saw The Jicks like 3 times and they never did a Pavement track. But did cover Stairway to Heaven once.
Also wise up Cornwall. Our Pavement albums are all being sent to other stores cos the people of Truro only listen to Michael Ball and Currents by Tame Impala
I only saw the Jicks once (Sparkle Hard tour) and they did In the Mouth a Desert and Shady Lane as the encore (plus a Neil Young cover)
Played a good bunch of Pavement and Silver Jews tunes on the solo Groove Denied tour
Saw the Jicks four times I think and the only only Pavement song they did was Harness Your Hopes. That’s ok though cos I like Jicks songs!
The Groove Denied gig I saw was fun, ramshackle as you’d imagine. Seem to remember most songs not really having a properly worked out ending and SM just kind of shrugging and smiling and fiddling to turn of the looping bits each time.
I also didn’t click with the Hard Quartet. Tried again a few months back and nah.
Might have been something he embraced more later on, when I’ve looked at older Jicks setlists they seemed to only do semi-obscure Pavement B-sides like Harness Your Hopes (before it was a viral hit!) and No Tan Lines - I remember reading an interview with Malk around Sparkle Hard where he says “instead of doing Shady Lane B-sides maybe we should just do Shady Lane?”

There’s one famous show where the Jicks played two songs from each Jicks and Pavement album, in order, but yeah it was mostly very unusual for them to look back to Pavement stuff.
Wonder what Joanna Bolme has been up to.
