That’s probably true

so in this case if you just walk into a restaurant would you still pay a deposit in case you haven’t just walked in

you heard!

He’s acting like it doesn’t get taken off your bill again.

that bloody place
giving circumstantially inconvenient evidence for my worldview :frowning:

This basically, but at the same time, as a customer I wouldn’t start throwing 1 star reviews around if they stuck to the policy. And as a restaurant owner I wouldn’t make a huge deal of it by writing an essay in response to that 1 star review.

A plague on everyone involved’s house pls.

hey btw I just googled “deposit restaurant” and found this

first fucking result.
TEN DAYS WAIT for the deposit to get back to you

so you need more money to begin with, ergo tory, ergo everyone shush

oh yeah, totally agree.

but then the only place dissatisfaction with pretty much anything gets expressed is in my head so leaving bad reviews is an alien concept at the best of times!

Right, so… don’t go there?

oh jeez but colin, what if it becomes more of a trend

now we’re done with the idea this doesn’t happen because it does maybe now we can move on to the poor not deserving to be able to eat in restaurants argument

Then I’ll join you in burning the country to the ground.

I’d like us to get to the 1 server per 5 customers bit. That’s not a sensible ratio is it?

mate I just posted the first one that came up, I know marckeeing won’t get my anywhere but if anecdotal evidence is dismissed out of hand and now actual evidence is there’s really nowhere the discussion can go

Except I’m not arguing that it’s the regular norm yet, I’m arguing it happens enough to be a worrying trend

OH THEY@RE COMING

I just want everyone to be able to eat out (fnar) as often as they can, because it’s nice, and this just seems a hurdle to that - in some cases - that could become a bigger hurdle in time. And one that’ll have near enough no benefit to workers, either. If it does I’ll happily pay all the deposits I can physically get my hand on but I reckon the inherent risk of the service business and the overall bad pay and precarious employment of its lowest ranking staff won’t change, by design if not anything else.
