I dont even know what we’re arguing here. It was a catastrophic mistake. Yeah, it wasnt deliberate. The honda ad would make me question how much regret he has about it, but who knows, maybe he didnt see anything in it.

John Landis is pretty big name.

It’s weird how quickly he was back to directing big films like Trading Places and stuff almost straight away.

Because most people who know their football haven’t forgotten about Kluivert and his deadly car crash.

Lily Allen? Not sure who she is and what she’s famous for.

Less so on these boards, but R Kelly obvs gets a mega free pass in the public eye.

Haha really?

A recent anecdote about meeting Matthew Broderick on Last Podcast on the Left seems to indicate that Broderick is still absolutely haunted by it.

well maybe i read problematic differently i don’t know. he was to blame and killed 2 people so… er… yeah. problematic-y i thought. kinda. could be wrong like.

When I read the full details of that on Wikipedia I was just astounded how fucked up it was and how he got away with it, frankly.

Snoop Dogg & Ray Lewis both probably murdered people (or were accessories to murder)

It’s almost like being sickeningly rich and related to some of the most powerful people in the world protects you from ever facing the true consequences of your actions.

I guess also the times. By that I mean: I hope the times. Like I genuinely don’t think anyone could get away with it like that if it happened now?

In a lot of these instances it’d help if the general public were’t morbidly fascinated with the bizarre concept of talented men being troubled geniuses.

Dunno. I guess Trump’s sons, for example, are maybe under more scrutiny now in a more exacerbated media climate than Kennedy faced, but I’m sure he’d moved heaven and earth to keep them from facing real charges.

Similarly, I remember my dad saying, when Prince Willian was in the news for passing his driving test, what would happen if he was caught drink driving, or even killed someone in an accident?

Sure, but there’s a callousness about Chappaquiddick that goes beyond a terrible accident through negligence. I don’t think people wouldn’t strive to protect important people, I’m just not convinced anyone in that shady a situation would be able to get to the position of senator Ted did.

(That said, it seems like he mainly did a lot of very good work as a senator. I can’t imagine Trump’s sons being beacons of progressive politics?)

Eric Clapton? (obviously this article was written just last year so obviously not everyone’s forgotten, but he certainly doesn’t seem to get much stick for it)
