really grim story tbh so will spoiler in case you don’t wanna know :confused:

Summary

he was apparently some famous plane bloke or something, and this ‘gang’ kidnapped his baby for ransom, and it went on for weeks or months with like mad cap chases and a massive police investigation, but they eventually found the baby’s body a few hundred yards from the house and they reckon they dropped it while climbing out of the window right when it first happened. one bloke was convicted of it but most people believe he can’t possibly have done it all by himself.

Lindbergh was essentially the most famous man in the world at the time, the first guy to fly non-stop across the Atlantic, and widely tipped to be future US president (which would have been pretty shit as he was a massive racist, anti-semitic, fascist fuck - there are lots of alternative history books where this happens). But the baby incident kind of put the brakes on his career in the public eye. So swings and roundabouts.

Before I am comprehensively marckeed, I should edit my post to say he was the first to fly solo non-stop between the US and mainland Europe, but still, that was a Pretty Big Deal.
