The “Ohio carried me away" line has reminded me how utterly brilliant Sun Kil Moon’s “Carry Me Ohio” is. In fact the whole “Ghost of the Great Highway” album still sounds amazing. It’s gutting what a horrible person Kozelek is when he made (when he was younger) some of the most beautiful, devasting music of all time.
Although my wife thinks it’s a reference to The National’s "I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees” line.

So I’ve listened to it somewhere between 5 and 10 times and yes, it has grown on me and yes, there are a few really great tracks on it. But it still feels a bit… fine still. Maybe my expectations were too high.
Banger. This album is made of bangers.
Finally getting round to listening to this. Doesn’t sound too bad, but I’ve heard better records than this.
Think it’s quite a pretty record really. And one that will get better over time. A slow burner maybe.
Actually, this record sounds terrible. Listened to a new Doves purchase and the new Hovvdy record and the PB record sounds awful compared with them. Get that a glow in the dark record isn’t necessarily going to sound amazing, but man the difference is pretty stark.
How’s that Hovvdy? Haven’t gone in yet.

They’re my comfort blanket
I like Lost Weekend, but also not surprised by the rave critical reviews. Phoebe has so much cultural cachet that, as long as it was pretty good, it was going to be recieved as great.
It does make me glad that her cover of You Missed My Heart exists though, it’s such an incredible song that I can still listen to without supporting a terrible person. Her version is definitive though, it never really stuck out on Perils from the Sea but the narrative feels stronger in her voice.

Finally got around to listening to the full thing on vinyl (I’d already listened on streaming) and there’s a single lyric difference on the physical version that was a bit of a surprise — in Bobby the line is “a thing in a box I don’t fuck anymore” which feels a little more on the nose
