Nils Frahm is a great example of a modern pianist and agree with the above suggestions of his tracks.

Ben Folds Five self-titled album is a great example of piano used in a rock/pop album, and it’s a classic to boot.

This song is dead nice.

(Can’t seem to embed the bandcamp player – any reason for that, or am I doing it wrong?)

This one from Mahmoud Ahmed (vol. 7) is great:

And as far as piano (and other instruments) playing nuns goes, I like Irene as well:

Or to stay in more African spheres, this guy:

All this aside, one of my favorite piano albums:

Great picks nono, heard Mamman Sani the other day through some list on either quietus or paste music, think they’re doing a reissue of his stuff.

Listening to the Sister Irene album now and it’s incredible! I’m a sucker for rudimentary drum machines basically.

bet you’re pretty great at piano though right?

Forgot to mention this upthread. Have recently gotten into Amanda Palmer.
Unbelievable song.

shuffle just threw this beauty at me - great album

big props for nils frahm and lubomyr melnyk. also; owen pallett remixing stars

’the heart asks pleasure first’ by michael nyman is an absolute banger, too

I think I’m gonna have to be the guy who drags Radiohead into the thread. Sorry not sorry. Can’t find a full version of this song anywhere, this vid is only a snippet, but I always thought Cuttooth was an absolute banger. B-side from the Kid A/Amnesiac era. Piano led but really uptempo in contrast to the usual maudlin Karma Polices and Pyramid Songs and We Suck Young Bloods (all great songs in their own right too, tbh tbf)

For me, this is the most beautiful piece of music ever:

Miro Kepinski - Primal Time

Please give this a listen. Self-released by a talented, piano loving friend very recently:

‘From the campsite honky-tonks to the grand on the terrace of Grand Hotel Tremezzo. I played every piano I came across. These four melodies came from those pianos. They are about the things I saw and felt when I cycled from Como To Pula.’
