Iโ€™m a grumpy bastard. Not really a fan of picnics.

However, since Covid my time spent in parks having a โ€œpicnicโ€ with booze, crisps and peanutsโ€ฆbut mainly booze, either alone with music on the earphones or with mates has been a brilliant way for me to relax and wind down.

So, I guess Iโ€™m a new convert to picnics.

Cool bag rammed full of stuff and a day at the cricket is the best type of picnic.

Iโ€™d like to have a nice picnic with friends at some point in the near future

Best picnic foods are the Big Four:
Sausage roll
Pasty
Scotch egg
Pork pie

Anything else is just filler.

Dry roasted peanuts and a bottle of red is my go to picnic currently.

We are picnicking with friends tomorrow.
They are making pesto hummus and chilli sausage rolls.
I am making a chocolate and cherry cheesecake swirl cake.

What savoury thing(s) should I make?

Obviously we need a big baguette.

Please donโ€™t take my liking your post as an endorsement of your picnic opinion, which I do not agree with. You havenโ€™t even mentioned bread and cheese!

Yes

Tortilla*, cut in little bite sized squares

Hell on earth

Favourite picnic non-food item is my Primavera totebag that by magic converts into a gingham picnic blanket.

*) Spanish omelette if youโ€™re British

Bread and cheese are always implied

We have three of these

Tortilla is an excellent shout.
What fillings?

Remember when I didnโ€™t have a knife so I used my crisps as a knife for spreading coleslaw and then made @avery eat the crisps because I didnโ€™t want to eat soggy crisps but I couldnโ€™t let them to go to waste, either.

No fillings. Traditional recipe: onion, potato and egg.

Suspected youโ€™d say this.

Bad picnic etiquette.

All picnic food should come ready to be eaten without any utensils or cutlery.
