The Lyra Pramuk review made me check the album out and very glad I did too. A revelation of an album.

I try to convince myself that I really hate Pitchfork but I go there everyday to read whatever catches my eye. But then again it’s free, if I had to a pay for it I’d never bother.

It’s a bit dull and pretentious for my taste, and a bit too much Americanized. So those three things combined? Say no more

Why didn’t they just pick a name that wasn’t taken rather than a name that just reminds people of what they used to be called?

Yeah, this is exhausting to read.

Do they still do articles like “Beach House were the answer to a question on Jeopardy! yesterday!” Always thought they were sweet, such a non-item of news. Like something I’d tell my mates and they’d just shrug or glaze over.

No time for that stuff now, it’s all ‘10 Things that influenced ADELE’s NEW ALBUM’

Still think this thread should be called PitchThoughts

I struggle to get through pretty much any review on Pitchfork. Don’t know whether my attention span has got short so short that anything more than a paragraph feels like war and peace, or whether their reviews are just a bit dull. They seem to take forever to get to the point.

Pitchfork became my grudging alternative to DiS after it stopped doing content, but to be honest these forums are a much better way of discovering new music. (Almost too much so at times!)

Generally I like the quality of writing on Pitchfork, myself, insofar as their reviews are concerned.

I’ll admit the sunday album review is quite pukka. I’ll end up reading it even if it’s an album I’m not so keen on (or artist, genre). Unless it’s gangster rap or modern Rn’B, then I’ll move swiftly on.

What don’t you like about those genres?

Yeah, the Sunday Classic Review thing is usually great. There was one about the Pure Moods compilation a few weeks ago. I have no interest in that kind of music but the back story and its popularity in the early nineties was really interesting.

Lyrical themes for gangster rap (pretty self explanatory!).

There’s probably a few modern RnB records you could find me (maybe with a psychedelic edge) I might like, I don’t play instruments so it’s hard for me to articulate the reason why I don’t like the genre (and I’m wary of looking like a numpty!) I just don’t care for it I suppose :slightly_smiling_face:

Forums are far and away the best way to get music recs, really need to try and embed myself in more places
