Going to stick the song list on today I think
Good to see that constant plugging of Fetch The Bolt Cutters has paid off.
Women absolutely ruling the roost in the readers polls. Love to see it.
Gave Fetch The Bolt Cutters a re-listen off the back of these lists. Still think there’s a few high points on the album that are outstanding but there’s also a lot there that does absolutely nothing for me.
feel a bit out of touch cos i’ve heard a fair bit of both lists and like maybe a third of them
Paste have also done their top 100 of the decade so far. I perfer it to the Pitchfork list TBH.

Most of these lists fail to represent metal and punk unfortunately. Snobbery
Definitely a more Dis-adjacent list, I’d probably agree that I prefer it.
Have been working through the Pitchfork 100 best tracks list over the last week or so and found a lot to enjoy though - Bullion, Hikaru Utada, Niontay, NewJeans and more were all new discoveries I really enjoyed.
The McKinley Dixon album at number 1 is an interesting pick. Partly because he’s been ignored elsewhere (never even been mentioned on Pitchfork) and partly because I’d say that’s the less vaunted of his two albums this decade (though both are good).
That list in general feels pretty influenced by the Needle Drop funnily enough. Quite a lot of the albums he specifically hyped up/albums I think of as Needle Drop-core, like Dixon, Spelling and Lingua Ignota, the latter two being two of the only records he ever gave a 10 too. I’d say he’s almost, single handedly, as influential a tastemaker as the whole Pitchfork site these days.
Yeah it’s a fair comment. It’s the sorta weird genesis all these sites have had really, from being 00s blog explosion sites covering (what you’d broadly call) indie rock and the gradual mission drift that has led to them being somewhere between that and a mainstream pop publication. Aside from a few crossover acts that means heavier or more extreme music has never had a look in.
Paste list is good, haven’t got a lot of love for the number 1 but can see why it’s good & it’s all personal opinions etc.
But I do think P4K gets criticised a bit unfairly for not pushing diff stuff. That 454 album isn’t getting in many major publications lists. Veeze in the top 10 etc.
Thing about P4K still is their specialist critics are - IMO - the best around.
Who would put forward for consideration from those genres, out of interest?
This would be the first to mind: Mestarin kynsi | Oranssi Pazuzu
played with these at a festival once, absolutely sick as hell, their forest mysticism slightly dented when I saw one of them having a piss later
Having read through the Paste one just there I’d argue there’s not a terrible showing from punkier stuff both them and p4k included Turnstile and Soul Glo for instance, metal though certainly is lacking.
…should we find out what a DiS list would look like?
100%
Not yet still, 3 months of the year left
Aye for sure but we into it as an idea?
new site set up by a bunch of ex pitchfork writers. seems pretty pitchforky
