Pixey is Lizzie Hillesdon from Liverpool area. She has her own studio where she creates her music, including production. Her early stuff was influenced by the Madchester scene, her more recent stuff consist of synthpop bangers (like Chvrches). I think she is very talented and deserves support. Her debut album Million Dollar Baby will be released on 2nd August. Listen to these songs if you wish, maybe you will enjoy them. I think they’re catchy as hell.
From Wikipedia:
Pixey cites George Harrison, De La Soul, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Björk, Grimes, the Verve, the Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Beck, and the Beatles as musical influences, as well as the ‘90s Madchester scene.
Great! Honestly, I like all 10 tracks. This album is a lean 34 minutes of quality pop music. The title track remains my favorite, it’s insanely catchy…
Two immediate standouts after a first listen. The Thrill of It has that pure pop sugar rush, great chorus that’s already sticking in my head after two listens, while Love Like Heaven dips into reflective indie more than I was expecting from write-ups. That one is giving me some Blondshell or Wolf Alice, shiny and hazy all at once
I listened to this album 10 times so far. I can say all 10 songs are great, every single one is interesting. Pixey simply didn’t miss. Man Power is such a powerful opener; she was definitely inspired by Vanishing Point & XTRMNTR eras of Primal Scream a little (and from Screamadelica for many of her past songs).
From her past releases, this underrated song Melody (From You to Me) really caught my attention. Such a punchy pop banger!
I guess you mean energetic songs like Bring Back the Beat. “Madchester Carly Rae Jepsen”, that sounds like a good description. Carly is a fantastic pop artist.
Yeah, I know. If you’re not from the UK - Liverpool, Ormskirk and Parbold are not far from each other.
It was just amusing to me and @barleysugar as it’s the general area we both (I think) have links to and not much comes from Ormskirk (old market town)…and even less from Parbold (village outside small market town).
