I’ve been to Paris, Rome and Dublin. Rome was my fave.

35 I think, 48.6% of which have been to ski/snowboard

only 11.4% have been to Belgium!!!

Yeah

Change of clothes for each day + buffer, basic toiletries, you can probably get anything else you need over there

Depends on how much you want to have planned out ahead of time. You can wing it in loads of places, especially cities.

We have/had reciprocal healthcare arrangements with other European countries, and there’s travel insurance for covering other things.

yeah I imagine it’s different if you’re travelling with another person, I would have to go abroad alone which I would never do

Every day I’m abroad, obviously.

I prefer travelling alone. Means I can go to the toilet at much as I want without it becoming a ā€œthingā€.

I used to feel like this but you get in the swing of it after a few trips abroad and going through airports and the likes is a piece of piss these days.

You can’t get lost with google maps. And it’s no riskier than walking around Wellingborough.

Obviously

yeah I imagine that is true.

Personally, I don’t think I’d like to find out that everywhere is basically the same and that going somewhere else is meaningless, I can imagine better places if I never go there.

Also it would amplify feelings of being lonely I think

What’s the worst that could happen?

that’s a nice thought and I’m sure I would enjoy it but I doubt I’ll ever have the money (not looking for sympathy, I’m not that bothered about staying in England forever, there’s plenty of nice forests and areas to walk around).

The other thing is sometimes I find really great experiences are harmful and depressing. Like if I have a really great day or week I will grieve once it’s over and it will negatively shape how I feel about the mundane parts of my life.

I guess murder is quite unlikely so I’d say that I lost my wallet and got stranded somewhere and couldn’t speak the language. I guess eventually police or something would pick me up and I’d be held at an embassy or something until someone paid the funds to ship me back home

23 times I think - didn’t go abroad until I was 16 because we didn’t have any money before then. Love travelling, now that I earn enough I can do it a bit more ethically as well (no Ryanair, no Airbnb, carbon offsetting etc).

You just take a spare credit card and leave it in a separate place.

Language isn’t a problem unless you go to somewhere like China. I’ve been travelling for three months now and don’t think I’ve felt scared/unsafe once.

There are tour groups you can do so you have a guide and a group of other people with you - that’s what I’m doing half the time and it’s great. Takes the stress out of travelling and means you don’t get lonely.

Basically what I’m trying to say is don’t let your fears get in the way of living your life

yeah it sounds good for normal people.

I think I’m just a bit weird which is of course ok. I’ve never had a credit card for example.

This is definitely not weird, and very sensible.

(or a passport)
