Played a bit of Gen 8 randoms on Pokémon Showdown (amazing that it’s up so fast). Dynamax seems crazy powerful - but at least it only lasts three turns. So glad my boi Mamoswine is in the regional dex :+1:

Art direction goes a long way and I think the game looks fine. It’s just got some really rough animations

It’s an odd one. Haven’t actually played it, but from the videos, it must be the biggest generation to generation leap in terms of visuals. And yet it definitely lacks the polish of big AAA Nintendo titles, and it’s clearly an upgrade of the DS titles, which were some way off current generation console games. That said, now I’ve adjusted my expectations downwards, I think it looks quite nice.

There’s some really nice bits of presentation here and there, but there’s also stuff that’s an utter mess. The Y menu is all over the place, but Gym battles are excellent - a real big event feel to them with clean modern art style.

Ultimately the core gameplay is what matters though and that’s still sound enough.

Kind of a bit overwhelmed by the amount of beasts tbh. Haven’t got very far at all and I’m already thinking “God, I’ve got to evolve all these beasts in my party of six and I’ve already got a long backlog of ones in boxes”

Think I’m just gonna focus on crafting a party of six extremely cool dogs, ghouls and rocks.

I wish the ai companions weren’t utterly worthless at raids, now I’m up to 5 star raids I lose more often than not because the AI doesn’t pick counters, often picks pokemon not suitable and they’re underleveled. And I’ve never managed to get a full party of humans. Tried to catch a giga centiscorch 4 times later night to no joy

I have no idea but they’re often much stronger than the wild counterparts and drop candies that you can use to level up your party. Also it’s a good way to catch pokemon which are hard to catch/find in the wild
