Recent reporting around the Dakota access pipeline makes me think that certainly civil disobedience has a space in this kind of discourse but my concern would be that the state, particularly in places like America has a huge monopoly on violence so how effectual could any strong action by civil groups actually be?

Right i’ve got it back on track pal. Stop with the pm’s you’re welcome :+1:

T E R R O R W A V E

I’ve been ā€œout of patienceā€ with you for time

is this the general politics thread?

really want to see someone on here trying to defend corbyn’s plan to launch skynet

I’d punch his comms team in the face. I think that’s political violence we could all get behind

That’s just a mess of buzzwords that means fuck all. Does he post on here?

apparently is, shirley

I seriously worry we’re a frog in hot water, and it’s going to start boiling while we all try to convince ourselves it’s just a jacuzzi.

smart factories don’t necessarily mean an additional loss of labour, I actually think what he’s said is kind of interesting but might be worth dissecting in a different thread.

So basically embracing industry 4.0?

i didn’t know what the current UK politics / corbyn thread was

yeah no biggie, I just think there’s a wider conversation to be had about next steps in automation.

Yeah.

Tech twitter and economics twitter has gone, ā€œyeah, sounds good. At least someone gets it,ā€ while political journalists have made a big show of their ignorance of it.

Political journalists are trash.

Yeah standard, I look forward to the mail labeling his statement bizarre or something along those lines.

who isn’t trash?

@still_here said he supports political violence in a thread not too long ago. maybe he’d be willing to elaborate?

Only in self defence, but I think with this wave of militant right wing populism and such that’s probably going to need to happen sooner or later. Still not ethically credible though.

does self defence only include when you are physically threatened? And to what extent must you be threatened to use your right to self defence?

Think if there was a bunch of seig heiling alt-righters gathered in a big group being rowdy and throwing stuff in my area I’d be okay with a ruck
It’s a context by context thing isn’t it
