Figured best to start a thread now it’s out in the UK.
Saw it yesterday. Still chewing it over.
Had no idea Vicki Pepperdine was in it and was delighted. More thoughts soon!

It was good but obviously made by a man.
Loved the book, best thing I read last year
Keen to see this next week, ideally in 35mm if possible for the texture
Gonna see it soon and have also started reading the book which I bought a couple of years ago (but as ever I’m trying to read like 3 books at once and some will fall by the wayside)
Going to make an effort to see this, loved The Favourite.
Just saw it, was alright but nothing earth shattering. Good performances from Stone and Ruffalo though and did like the sets.
Some of the costumes are currently on display in the Barbican, if that’s your thing.
Design wise - incredible
Performance wise - incredible
Story wise - one note, repetitive and felt like a very basic exploration of the themes (the loss of the postscript/epilogue section from the book, or at least something similar, really hurt it imo)
Partner found something creepy about it in a male-gazey way
SHE GRABBED MY HAIRY BUSINESS
Mark Ruffalo is so, so, so fucking great in this thing. An incredible performance.
I liked it but didn’t love it. Hates the aesthetic and real “I get it” vibes after 90 mins. Real “I get it” vibes from Yorgos Lanthimos in general tbf, diminishing returns from him for me but in the order I’ve watched his stuff instead of the order he’s made them.
Emma Stone is very good indeed. I absolutely love the choices she’s making for roles. One of the best.
I liked the half dog half duck as a creature.
Very David Firth, the mixed animals. Well all the Defoe bits really.
Yer man really needs a new idea like sharpish.
Thought this was good overall but again too long and just the same ideas over and over. Stilted speech, outrageous dialogue, funny dance sequence. All just becoming far too familiar.
Ruffalo was fucking funny though tbf.
It was one of the writers on The Favourite writing this one too - Lanthimos’ next film is back with the writing partner he had prior to The Favourite, pretty good cast
I really loved it but to be fair it’s my first Lanthimos film and I haven’t read the novel. I’ll eve forgive them
moving half the narrative out of Glasgow
I was really surprised at how heartfelt it was, I was expecting something more removed and cynical.
Sorry gang, entire film shall be recalled and set on fire owing to Bella, a British character, saying “I wrote…” instead of “I wrote to…”.
Thought outside of a very good central performance it was bobbins. Had very little to say, said it badly, ugly as sin, not funny, hated ruffalo, boring
Good bits - interior set design, costumes, Emma Stone
I think I’m in the liked it but didn’t love it gang. Looked and sounded great, good acting etc, and elements of the story were interesting - although overall was ultimately a bit thin and didn’t fully explore anything in any kind of particular detail. I felt like post-the ship section it kinda fizzled out a bit and the Paris section was overly drawn out and hard to watch. Still, I liked it…I think.
I loved it. Big fan of the four of his films I’ve seen now. Lobster and Killing Deer are on All 4 at the moment for anyone who wants to watch them.
It’s 2 hours 20?? Not falling for this again after EEAAO
I think you are the individual who values your time the most out of any individual I know
