Before the final rot set in. A step down from xtrmntr but still a long way ahead of where they went next. Lord is my Shotgun and Deep Hit of Morning Sun are worth the fact that 30% of the album is utterly forgettable.

Midlake, The Trials of Van Occupanther.
Midlake is imo the epitome of a Pretty Good rock band, and this is probably their Pretty Goodest album. Parts are dangerously close to tipping it into Really Great, but you’re never far from a spell of Quite Dull to bring things back into line.
75% all day long.
