Back on my bullshit tonight going to Union vs Holstein Kiel with a big bag on cans wi the boys

They were a pre-Roman Chelsea with all the history of AFC Bournemouth

PSG vs Marseille
Barca vs Madrid
Munich vs Dortmund
Ajax vs Feyenoord
Arsenal vs Utd when they were both good…

I don’t think that Colchester vs. Wycombe is the biggest rivalry in the country

Arsenal vs. Utd was never the biggest rivalry in the country, they were just the two best teams for a bit

It was th most relevant and therefore biggest for a few years but yeh it’s United vs Liverpool really

It was the biggest game, for sure. But that’s not the same thing imo

Not sure about that - they had huge success in the mid-90s when they were owned by Canal+. It was like a French equivalent of the Italian model where large media companies bankroll clubs.

So kind of like the Gullit/Vialli period in the mid/late 90s/early 00s where Chelsea won the FA Cup twice, the League Cup, the Cup Winners cup & qualified for the Champions League just before Roman took over?

It was a bit more than that - a league title, three cups, two league cups, Cup Winner’s Cup and five European semi-finals in a row.

There was also the subsequent dip, which I think makes the sudden uplift after the takeover more pronounced.

The PSG kits of the late 90s were absolute beauts

Well I’d argue it’s an example of a rivalry based on success like the others are, it was just briefer. Utd vs Liverpool was also partly this but it’s geographical too, like with City more recently
