Potential DiS Fundraisers

So, Sean was asking for donations to go towards the forum costs again and being the titan of fundraising* that I am, I wondered if there might be interest in doing some bigger fundraising things to try supplement his efforts? Couple of ideas to gauge interest here…

First, the classic raffle as I know how to do this. With the twist of the prizes all being music-related. I asked @sean about this and he was on board and was going to try get some prizes, but we’d need some more than that donated from forum users. Would be regular raffle set up beyond that: ask for prizes :arrow_right: prize reveal thread :arrow_right: entries open :arrow_right: raffle afterwards probably Mid-august.

  • I would buy a ticket
  • I think I could donate a prize
  • I have no interest but I like polls

(note: music-related prizes does not mean an opportunity to get rid of your old unwanted CDs, only wanted things please)

Second idea, I was looking into Everpress t-shirt campaigns and making a subtly DiS t-shirt if people would buy it. Obvs depends a lot on the design if people think they’d buy it so only a preliminary thing with this (thought of it last night so haven’t drawn anything yet), would have to charge a minimum of £16 for a short-sleeved t-shirt to turn a profit. If we could sell 50 there would be a good amount raised (the profit per t-shirt increses a lot when you hit 50)
Would people be interested?

  • I would buy a t-shirt if I liked the design
  • I would not buy a t-shirt no matter what
  • I would buy a t-shirt even if I didn’t like the design because I love DiS so much

(the design I am thinking is mostly based on waves, with the letters DiS very obscured within and maybe the anchor and waving/drowning guy from the old logo in some form too… if anyone else wants to have a stab at a design we could have a vote to see which was more popular)

For a raffle I’d need some tech support help (which @ynot has done masterfully before - didn’t want to volunteer you though if you might be busy especially) and if I did a t-shirt design I would need some help just to tidy the image digitally after I scan it in.

Other ideas very welcome, as is telling me these are stupid ideas but maybe say it nicer than that please.

waving not drowning.

in. can’t contribute anything but would definitely buy a ticket and also a t shirt, as long as it didn’t have “i regularly post absolute drunken nonsense on drownedinsoundDOTCOM” on it.

Would be very subtle in it’s DiS-ness, like you’d have to know you it was a DiS t-shirt already to tell. Will do some sketches in the next couple of days.

oooh yes want yes please thanks

I’ve not participated in the raffle before (raffles make me really anxious  how pathetic is that??) but it kind of depends what prizes are available I guess so not sure how to vote? I’d like to support it as people speak so highly of it but if it’s gonna be like, a saxophone lesson or a copy of Dark Side Of The Moon then I’d probably just stick with my renewed and increased DiS monthly donation.

This would never make enough to replace monthly contributions so I urge people to continue their monthly contributions.

The raffle set up we use means you get to select which prizes you are interested in when you enter so you don’t end up with any unwanted saxophone lessons. Obvs though that doesn’t necessarily mean there’ll be enough prizes to interest you, but if there are you can be assured you won’t end up with things you don’t want.

Thanks for organising this! Does it have to be just music related? I have to ask because I’m not sure what I can contribute/ would want to win? Could we do a normal raffle but with an emphasis on music?

This is amazing but I can’t imagine selling more than four of them (also more colours = less profit)

I’ll set up my gameshow OnlyFans and donate 69% of takings to DiS.

I don’t think I’ll actually do this but I wonder how much I could earn out of it without going into porn territory

My thing of not wanting to do a normal raffle is that I don’t want this to take away from the normal raffle, if that makes sense?

Also I’m going to link this over on the music board, and a music raffle will hopefully draw in more of those folk :crossed_fingers:

Sponsor a HGATR suggestion so it does get featured?

Ohhhh I did not know this. Should have read the previous raffle threads shouldn’t I.

(And dw, I wasn’t going to cancel my sub as I’ve only just reactivated it, just that if I knew I wouldn’t get something I had no need for then I’d take part in this on top of that  )

I’ve felt quite guilty about not taking part in the past as it’s clearly been so well received and raised loads of money and @anon89873996 is an absolute legend! I just get the jeebies about not being in control of what I win  (Might start a thread about being a control freak :see_no_evil: )
