Im not even that down on us and think Sunderland’s business might make them pretty good too.
I just think the context is very different. Last time we came up and finished 9th, Sheffield Utd had done the same the year before. That feels impossible now.
Only once before 2023 had all three promoted clubs gone straight back down and now it’s happened two years in a row. That means that 17 clubs have had years of consolidation and essentially a massive head start.
100 points in the Champo used to be a near guarantee of being competitive in the PL but as we saw with Burnley, Leicester that’s no longer the case.

I do think it’s possible that Wolves, Brentford, Everton, West Ham or Fulham have a poor season and get dragged in, and us or Sunderland prove more competitive. I’m just realistic after the last couple of years that the gap is massive.
I think it’s those teams having a poor season that’ll be the difference. I can’t see Brentford being in the top division forever and without Frank I think they’ll struggle. Mind you, Bournemouth and Brighton have surprised me with how long they’ve stayed. The size of Leeds and Sunderland make me think they’ve more chance of staying up for longer, they generally do consolidate in the top league when they get up there (apart from Leeds’ last try)
Wolves and Fulham could be in trouble, don’t think Everton will - they’re looking at top 10 I think.
Not ruling it out. I’m just realistic about the gap. Bournemouth, Forest and Fulham stayed up at our expense three years ago and should be the kind of teams we’re looking to catch but they’ve all done really well to build and consolidate tbf.
Twelve months ago people were making optimistic arguments for why Leicester & Ipswich wouldn’t do the same as the promoted clubs the year before and look what happened there.
Wolves brentford and bournemouth have gone massively backwards this close season. Palaces squad seems really small for a european season. Fulham seem to have given up for some reason.
Deffo best chance of a promoted side staying up for a couple of years
