Prince Thread (Rolling) - Incorporating reissue chat

Intrigued to see what’s included in the Around The World box, from what I remember that album (and Parade) don’t have quite as much material recorded that ended up in the vault as the albums before/after.

Around the World in a Day reissue announced, pretty low on extra material but I didn’t think there was a particularly large amount in the vault from this one anyway, and he didn’t tour it so no live stuff either.

Prince’s seventh studio album, and the second to be credited to Prince and the Revolution, Around The World In A Day, was released on April 22, 1985. Featuring no fewer than four singles, Around The World In A Day saw Prince and the Revolution change musical direction yet again, experimenting with psychedelic textures, incorporating new instrumentation, and expanding the genres of songs within the album.

With audio newly remastered by original mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, with additional mastering by Chris James, the Around The World In A Day Deluxe Edition includes the original album plus an entire bonus disc of extra material. The B-Sides & Bonus Tracks disc includes the extended versions of the A & B sides including the remix of Paisley Park, the extended version of Girl and Hello (Fresh Dance Mix), the nearly 22-minute 12" version of America (which makes its debut on CD), and two versions of the 1985 song, 4 The Tears In Your Eyes.

Pop Life probably his most underrated track imo

Pretty pointless reissue really, must have been some jams or something sitting around for a third disc. Noticed they’re flogging incredible amounts of tat on the webstore based around the album.

Around the World and Parade could both do with remastering, so if that’s done well I’m alright with this one. Would be disappointed if there isn’t more when it comes to the Parade reissue though (the live stuff that could come with Parade and Lovesexy reissues is my own holy grail for whatever is left in the vault).

Said it before but I always think it’s such an incredible waste to not have some type of subscription/Third Man type model set up to manage getting his music out there on a more regular basis

So many rehearsals, cool soundchecks, aftershows, outtakes, demos, collaborations, albums just lying around. Feel for his fans who were there at the time, they’re not getting any younger and deserve a chance to hear it

I thought the Sign O the Times and Diamonds & Pearls reissues were good, and the way they should all have been done (ideally chronologically from the start of the catalogue) - remastered album, b-sides etc, vault tracks, some good live stuff from the period the reissue covers.

There’s obviously a load of stuff like you say, aftershows etc that might not fall into those, so yeah maybe a Neil Young-style archive site for that material.

Seems like it’s all got a bit messy though with the management of it, I haven’t bothered to read the details. But if you want an Around the World suitcase for £90, the estate have got you covered.

Could keep a nice Prince bootleg collection in that!

Agree the 1999 SOTT reissues were great. There’s just so much more

If anyone’s interested the bonus tracks for a shelved Love Symbol deluxe reissue have leaked, not had a chance to check them yet but links are on Reddit I believe

Checked these out and… they’re not very good. Diminishing returns with vault stuff by this point. There is a great version of 1000 Hugs and Kisses but that’s about it

Yeah, kind of not so good

Had a flick through once and straight to recycling bin, interesting experiments but nothing I would want to revisit

How good is his guitar tone (and playing, obviously) on Temptation? Listened to it 10 times today
