Yep, got the Ruban Jaune. Smashed Trentin’s 2015 Paris Tours record by a full KPH (first time the record has been set in a GT stage). Said he was in 54x11 spinning 110rpm all day.

The Ruban Jaune (English; Yellow Ribbon) is a cycling trophy created in 1936 by Henri Desgrange, awarded to the rider recording the fastest average speed in a professional cycling race or stage longer than 200 km. It was a cross-tail wind so maybe that explains the high speed?

Obvs no-one saw the break get away because they hadn’t started the coverage, but I don’t think it’s particularly suspicious. It was a massive split, could have just been luck I think.

Quintana was in the Contador-engineered break on stage 15 of the 2016 Vuelta when they caught Froome napping very early on. The time gained there was a large part of his overall win, IIRC.

Yeah, that of course. I think Valverde gets his own way. Although they’re obsessed with team performance as a whole for whatever reason, so they probably thought 2nd and 3rd podium is worth a go, even if they pull others along with Valverde.

Oh, who am I kidding, Movistar tactics will forever remain a mystery.

Apparently they did it to drop Roglic’s teammates (which they did), but then Astana worked for Lopez, saving Roglic’s jersey. Had a look at a Spanish cycling forum last night and they were fuming at Astana.

If he has no team mates, it’d have been down to him to do the chasing. Totally fine tactics, but Astana were chasing for Lopez’s podium position and got Roglic off the hook.
