keep that money out of Ridley’s pocket!

probably the best alien film

Just succumbed to this because I am bored on a Bank Holiday Sunday.

It’s not good at all and makes no sense even in the cinema.

The worst crime is that it has absolutely no suspense. Spent most of the movie yawning.

Gonna go see it tomorrow, finally. So we’re watching Prometheus again… NOW. #prayfor29

Don’t, please don’t.

ā€œI think they want us to come and find themā€

The precise moment this all goes to fucking shit. About 8 minutes gone. FFS. Already getting angry.

why would you do this

No, I liked it. Mostly because it’s so much better than Prometheus but also because for at least the first half it’s really entertaining. Tails off dramatically in the final third but still manages not to be entirely awful.

Yup: Alien, Aliens and Alien: Resurrection (I know you mean this one because that’s the French one)

Oh Theo.

I’m not actually joking. Those are actually the three entertaining ones.

Edit: ACTUALLY

Alien 3 is actually really good! I can see what they were trying to do with Resurrection but it’s still complete toss.

i don’t think i’ll ever accept it as a legitimate sequel (as i said earlier, the ā€˜there’s an egg on the Sulaco’ thing makes no sense on any level other than that the whole film is just a nightmare that Ripley is having in hypersleep)

but this is the best article i think i’ve read on Alien 3, really insightful http://reflectionsonfilmandtelevision.blogspot.ie/2015/03/dont-be-afraid-im-part-of-family-how.html

Having watched Prometheus AGAIN last night, I have to say I do still really enjoy it. Notice something new each time that I obviously missed through eye rolling my way through the previous watch. Covenant today! Wooo! :alien:

Alien 3 is fine but it’s mostly just a retread of the first film. I don’t take anything away from it that I didn’t already get from Alien. There’s no attempt to bring anything new to the table.

Alien: Resurrection completely falls apart when the Newborn appears, it’s true, but the first 2/3 of the film are really strong. The bit where Ripley finds the clone room is brutally dark and the group of Pirates are a great collection of individual characters. Ripley’s character too, is now clearly changed by her new xenomorph DNA. And overall, there’s definitely an attempt by Jeunet to subvert the film with black comedy.

For me I file it alongside Die Hard with a Vengeance: a great film until a completely terrible final act.

Watched Alien Resurrection for the first time in ages last night and really enjoyed it. Helped wash the taste of Covenant out of my mouth a bit. Loved how batshit crazy it is and the body horror elements are really pronounced in this as well.

just watched this. I dunno. interesting as a movie that takes place in the Alienverse, but not especially satisfying. Aside from Billy Crudup looking into a fucking egg, at least it wasn’t as dumb as Prometheus.
