Kelly Lee Owens has said the same

Because they might sell a few more physical copies to ‘casual’ browsers in the shop? Don’t know.

Another new one:

yeah this is probably my fav off the new album, so so good

Think I prefer the previous two tracks but this album is amongst my most eagerly anticipated of the year.

Deliberately not listening to any of these, so it’s all super-fresh when it comes out. Very excited for this album!

This is excellent. French Poet in particular is :fire:

Must be nice to be so good that you have b-side this good to just casually bring out when you feel like it for a very good cause.

P4k did the feat of creating a long list of the most anticipated albums of the next summer without mentioning this one, but they managed to include 10 records that do not even have an announced date.

Also essentially shat on their last (excellent) record. I guess what Proto are doing resonates much more internationally than in central L.A.?

I’m not sure what this means.

lol - wrote this blind drunk. I Think what I was trying to say was that I’d been surprised to see Proto playing to full/large-ish rooms in London, and from what I understand they’re bigger internationally than at home. For me that last album really captured a feeling that I thought was in the air - but, from my limited knowledge, it didn’t seem to chime as hard in the states. What that has to do with central LA or indeed anything, I’m afraid you’ll have to ask mr Jack Daniels.

That was really weird. Took some time to listen to it myself after reading the review and then had to go back and read it again to make sure it wasn’t a spoof.

Just read the review. Relatives is easily one of my favourite albums of the last 20 years at least. ‘It is hard to find direct references to Trump…’ Really!!! Just a few of the top of my head ‘golden door’ ‘throw him out!’, ‘this age of blasted trumpets/paradise for fools’, ‘truth is a collicking horse’.

Ok, it just read a little like you were complaining about P4K covering music from central L.A (I.e rap music) but didn’t want to jump at that without you explaining first. Was that literally just an example of an American city you feel proto haven’t resonated in as much? P4K are still largely based on Chicago right?!

Anyway, I’m not really sure, I think they’re relatively the same size wherever they go. The biggest they played here is Scala which still isn’t massive. I think there’s a relative ceiling to punk music which is partially self imposed (like calling yourself Fucked Up) but because music journalism doesn’t take it that seriously and it’s abrasive. Ironically IDLES and Fontaines D.C have got massive in the interim time since Relatives doing a less interesting version of the same thing (and don’t get me wrong I like those bands) which shows it’s all relative in terms of timing but also watering yourself down just enough. P4K and a lot of U.S press fawned over both as some international fascination, so it works both ways if Proto really are more popular here.

One week. Hang in there.
