Public Service Broadcasting 2024 - new album etc

No thread for these guys (other than the one that turned into a Frank Turner tour discussion) so thought I’d start one. One of my favourite bands of the last decade.

New album theme announced today is typically niche but looks wonderful.

First track they’ve put out from the new one is a banger:

Really didn’t like the German disco album, but will listen to this later

Too po faced for me

Absolutely loved that album and psyched for this one. They are wracking up a great discography.

Album release gig here. The Kingston gig they did for the last album was very good.

There’s one in Bristol organised by Rough Trade, and the prices are way higher - £20 for a ticket on its own vs £12 here?

They’ve certainly got an aesthetic haven’t they

This is much much more jolly

Dunno who Andreya Casablanca is tbf, but If this was a single by one of DiS’ skandi pop favourites, the board would be all over it

Was in Gurr who made a bit of an impact about six years ago. Think she was on Bright Magic too.

Really enjoyed first listen of this. More back to their ‘classic’ sound I’d say than the slightly more experimental Bright Magic and some lovely moments that reference back to and play on some of their previous tracks. Great stuff. Looking forward to my zoetrope vinyl version arriving hopefully today

I’m not sure they’ll ever be able to beat The Race For Space, it was the absolute perfect concept to support their music.

The Race For Space > Bright Magic > The Last Flight > Every Valley > Inform Educate Entertain

This may change. I like them all though.

I love the instrumentation on this record. One of their best for how it all comes together.

I think I agree on this with the proviso that Everest is their best song.

The Titanic ep is also great

It’s my second favourite after Gagarin. Oh, and maybe Go!.

The skiing concept single is fun too.

My top songs of theirs I think would be…

Everest
They Gave Me a Lamp
The Other Side
Gagarin
Kolorev
Blue Heaven

Perhaps roughly in that order but always subject to change based on mood

Edit: I missed All Out as well which I also love - it could almost be a Mogwai track. Great band

I had forgotten about Gagarin and also My Blue Heaven off of Bright magic - great band.

Also really excellent live

Had the new album on over the weekend - very pleasant, but I do feel they now need to change things up a bit.

Sounds great on Vinyl. Really good mastering job on this. The Fun of It is a tune.
