JDW are trying to open what looks like a great space with roof terrace in a middle class if studenty bit of Bristol, in a building that has been empty for years (possibly decades) and whilst I don’t want them there, there is a chance that a building gets a much needed facelift and the nichey pubs in the area actually feel a lift.

This is one of the things they are quite good at doing tbf. Doesn’t make up for the bad in my view, but credit where it’s due on their refurbs and use of old disused buildings.

yeah I was surprised by that because it’s the first time I’ve seen a suggestion that wasn’t a pub but good on wileycat for organising that

We’ve had a number of picnics, non-alcoholic meals and numerous sports events for meet ups over the years (who can forget #fatrophyrun). And of course individuals/groups have met at festivals too.

It’s def fair to say a disproportionate number of meets are at pubs, but certainly down south there’s been something of an effort to make sure not all meets are in that vein.

Lovely staff
Record player on the bar playing whatever the hell they like (tends not to be modern, but usually good)
Nice varied crowd
On the way from a really nice countryside walk
Good roast
Free yorkshire puds and roasties after the roast dinners have finished
Usually a good dog or two in the pub
Harvey’s on tap

Used to work in the little trading estate just opposite this pub, absolutely great place for lunchtime pints and Friday evenings. Should never have changed jobs.

I was in a reasonably normal pub in Durham a couple of weeks back, but they had a properly unlikely playlist - Alexisonfire, Rise Against, Yellowcard etc. Really enjoyed myself. Wish I could get to the pub more, love 'em.
