I’m sure you’re right, but having absolutely never heard of one before I was somewhat shocked.

you put tangy sauce on the butty, obvs

efficiently offsetting both the chips and the roll

Fuck I really want a chip butty now. Chippy isn’t open until 4

Never got the appeal of this even as a kid. Feel like people romanticise it a bit due to the childhood connection.

A cafe in Belfast rebranded as a crisp sandwich cafe for a while a few years ago. A couple of friends worked there and the owner seems like a good sort on twitter so I won’t be too harsh on them but that felt a bit like taking the gimmick a bit far

It’s good with houmous and a bit of spicy sauce

Correct answer. Walkers are pisspoor both in and out of sandwiches but those Pipers Lye Cross Cheddar & Onion are magnificent either way.

Brannigans ham & mustard (RIP) were the best for this. Pickled onion monster munch work surprisingly well too. Crisps in sandwiches are great. Crisps not in sandwiches are also great.

tbh i’m so bored of making my own sandwiches at this point that i’ll stick anything in there to liven it up

Totally pointless endeavour imo. Both are great separately, no need to combine them .

I like crisp sandwiches.
Good snack choice when when you’ve not got much left in the cupboards.
Packet of Tayto cheese N onion in some bread and some tangy bbq sauce.
Sorted.

Did this for my lunch

Love crisps in a sandwich. Excellent added crunch. Mainly walkers type.

Pickled Onion or Worcester Sauce crisps are the best sandwich fillers. Cheap white bread. Butter.

never plan on doing this but it seems daft not to when they’re there on the plate together

Perfectly okay with a crescent of crisps on the side of the plate, perhaps with some salad or cress, particularly if it’s a sarnie from a fancy cafe and they’re serving up some artisanal crisps that you normally only find in service stations.

It’s just not right putting them in the actual sandwich though. The clash of textures is all wrong, and crisps don’t really go with butter, so it’s even worse if the bread is buttered. Just eat them separately eh.

Chip butties are another faux pas. It’s just the height of blandness. There are very few instances where it’s fine to combine carbs with carbs, and neither a crisp butty nor a chip butty qualifies IMHO.

Ah it’s all good if people just want to eat something they like. A bit of carby comfort food is fair enough.

ponders asking if anyone else likes sausage roll sandwiches
