I’d say it is irrelevant if the timeline is better or worse, it still amounts to mass murder, wiping out the people as they were in the original timeline and replacing them with slightly different people, not just the specific people he helps but the way their changed existence would ripple out Homer Simpson time toast style. Maybe the evil leaper were not evil but were putting wrong what once went right where what once went wrong

My theory is that they were actually called the e-value leapers, an organisation who were trying to save money through their use of superior, cheaper leaping technology. Al convinces Sam they’re evil because he’s hooked on that sweet, sweet leaping funding. Every time he says he has to go and sods off through that light portal thing it’s to do another couple of lines on his golden throne.
