Just ordered some of these. I’ve used ER20s for years so I’m keen to contrast and compare.

What would you recommend between ER-20’s and the EarPeace ones? I want to get some but don’t know which to go for.

I would say they are both pretty similar in terms of sound levels, I have only worn the EarPeace ones to a couple of gigs, but they were black metal gigs! I have fitted the red filters that come with the EarPeace plugs, supposedly the stronger (?) of the two they come with. They seem to put the sound levels at a pretty similar level as the ER20s.

I can’t comment on how comfy they are for long periods of time but they seem softer than the ER20s so I can’t see that would be a problem, also they are more discrete. The ER20s tend to stick out of my ears a bit whereas the EarPeace plugs seem to fit pretty flush.

First impressions are pretty good. I think I’ll be sticking with the EarPeace ones for the time being.

Thanks. I’ll prob give the EarPeace ones a go then.

I don’t go to many loud concerts - not many concerts at all actually - but I do take along earplugs of the foam type if I think they might be required. I think I have only used them once, and that was at a Midnight Juggernauts gig. When I first inserted them I thought “Gee, this really deadens the sound”, then after a few minutes I hardly noticed it and was enjoying the sound as much as ever.

I did a very silly thing - flew across the country to see and hear Porcupine Tree, diligently packed my earplugs, then on the night I forgot to take them to the concert. I realised my mistake as soon as the support band - the highly inappropriately named Sleep Parade - started playing. I guess being the support act they felt they had to be extra loud to get attention. Porcupine Tree themselves, though, were at a quite tolerable volume, which was a relief.

fairly disillusioned with my moulded earplugs. wasn’t expecting low-end frequencies to be so distorted. keep taking them out or halfway out when i want to really enjoy something playing.
people say the sound quality isn’t affected so maybe i got some duds?

Why is there 3 in a packet?

Check out billy two ears here.

I guess it’s that they give you a spare in case you lose one but didn’t want to go as far as giving you two pairs in a pack.

I actually have 4 ears so wondered where the other one was.

Yes - these earplugs are great and I bought a pair off the back of posts on the old forums.

In my previous job I had to have frequent hearing tests and I was told that for my age my hearing was very poor and that was likely due to not wearing earplugs and going to multiple gigs a month. I saw MBV twice in the space of a few days with no earplugs either time and that was really fucking dumb.

Been using the ER20s for about 2 years and it’s made a significant difference. I wouldn’t say my hearing is better as such, but it hasn’t continued getting worse. It also just feels loads nicer when the gig ends/the next day, when your head doesn’t have that numb ringing-from-the-inside-out feeling. And they don’t fuck with the sound. Couldn’t recommend enough.

I’ve got ER20s but find that it often ruins the sound so much I end up taking them out.

Are there any more expensive ones that are more effective? Are they worth the extra money?

Just bumping this. In need of a new pair and was wondering if anyone has any they’d recommend?

I have the ACS PRO 17s https://www.acscustom.com/uk/products/hearing-protection/pro-series/pro-17

I avoided getting custom moulds for ages as I thought they were far too expensive, but considering I go to mostly noisy rock/electronic gigs (and was never satisfied with sound from my cheap earplugs), thought I’d finally take the plunge and fork out £139 for a pair.

They are fantastic! They mainly attenuate the sound by -17dB, so no frequencies are affected unlike cheaper earplugs where the sound always ends up being muffled with the high-end taken out. Everything just sounds so much more crisp and clearer, I can’t ever imagine going to a show without them now!

Further to my posts back up the thread I’ve actually gone back to the ER20s, I started to have trouble getting the Earpeace ones to stay in for some reason. The ER20s just fit better in my ears and I can forget I’ve got them in.

I’m considering these as an expensive but necessary purchase. Gone through a few £20 brands and they all muffle the sound too much for my liking, plus when I wear them in my band it seems to confuse the sound for me and I have trouble hearing my guitar sound properly. Tried QT’s, Earpeace, ER20’s and a couple of others. Friend of mine who drums a lot got some moulded ones and loves them and another friend who plays in the band Muertos wears them too and she gives them a big thumbs up. Big pricey thumbs up though.

Googling now to see if there is a hearing defender out there with a linear frequency drop, similar to all these pricey filtered earplugs. Obviously no good at gigs unless you don’t mind being out there with your health & safety choices, but would be ideal at band practice for people like me who love to rock but hate putting things in their ears.

Anyone (drummers?) got any experience of these?

I’ve never got on with ER20s, don’t know whether my ear canal is a funny shape but they just don’t fit me very well so usually end up with tinnitus with them in regardless.

Will be the 30 year anniversary next year of when I started going to gigs and was mildly concerned about the lasting damage I’d done. But my local opticians do free hearing tests and said my hearing was (remarkably) as good as gold when they checked mine.

But don’t want to get blase so thinking the moulded ones will be my next (and imminent) purchase. My main worry at that price would be losing them - I guess they are much better at staying in place during a spell of mild (or vigorous) ass shaking than the average earplug?

My big worry too. I’ve dropped and lost regular earplugs a few times at gigs, the worst timed one at a Destruction Unit gig, ending up with tissue in one ear and a plug in the other. Ears fecked for days after that.

Yes I have this trouble too as have narrow ear canals so ear plugs don’t fit- always seem to aggravate my ear problems as well (blocked ears). Need to get proper customised ones.
