Anyone else watching the YouTube stream Of their 1999 Glasto headline slot? Never seen it before. It’s
Is it the one the beeb were showing the other week?
It’s BBC coverage so possibly? Hadn’t realised it had been on TV tho - this was the first I’d heard of it.
Not been a single dud so far. Unless it falls off a cliff I’m not sure why it doesn’t get talked about more often as one of the greats
I was at 2003 and that felt equally epic. But then I was absolutely smashed off my face. So much so that the guy next to me in the crowd told me to go to bed
I literally only really know ‘what’s the frequency Kenneth?’ (which I really like) and ‘Everybody Hurts’ (which I fucking hate) where should I start with their back catalogue?
it’s part of the Live at the BBC box set too. Amazing set list, amazing concert. Stipe’s singing live was astonishing in the late 90s to early 2000s. For example, I will never, ever tire of posting this video:
Honestly? Start at the start and go from there. The first EP and 8 LPs are amazing. Then a few good and a few Meh to round the career out. If you want an abbreviated start point try the best of the IRS years compilation.
FTFY
But yeah, what @thesewoodenideas said
yeah this is very good
Malkmus disagrees
it is a good one though
Yeah but Malkmus is a twat
I have no beef with him really, nor indeed an opinion on him at all save that he’s wrong about Annelise
he did write a whole song in tribute to them, but makes it clear that “TIME AFTER TIME WAS MY LEAST FAVOURITE SONG!”
I have known about this song for at least two decades if not more, yet somehow never listened to it
now’s a good time to start, i guess
yeh, when he got Chronic Town’s release date wrong I checked out
plus it’s a reminder that I don’t like Stephen Malkmus’ voice, nor Pavement’s guitar tone (they count as opinions, I suppose)
interesting listen nevertheless, thanks
but it wouldn’t rhyme if he got it right!
Enjoyed the Losing My Religion episode of Song Exploder on Netflix. Surprised at how well it worked in that format tbh
Fucking brilliant song.
Haven’t seen the other episodes but imagine something like this could easily turn in to a self congratulatory cringe fest
The R.E.M. boys turned it in to a great little 20 mins of tv.
Great song, great band.
I loved that yeah, they seem very much ‘at peace’ with it all. Weird how they did Try Not To Breathe for the podcast version but then i guess for telly they had to do The Smash Hit.
Bumpy bump for a 1989 show I didn’t know existed until now: a benefit concert where they played Murmur in full then Green in full then encores
