Inspired by this thread I stuck on the early years best of And I Feel Fine, which is very good. Don’t Go Back to Rockville is a total tune, never noticed before for some reason.

Also, listening to The One I Love I heard the chorus (ie FIIIIRE) as the fire emoji :fire::fire::fire::fire:, which is possibly an indication that I’ve been spending too much time on the internet

Ah, Reckoning… definitely my top REM record. Pretty much perfect from start to finish.

I listened to Lifes Rich Pageant all the way through on the train home last night, for the first time in yonks. What a record. Forgotten how much I love The Flowers of Guatemala.

I “rediscovered” that song myself yesterday! Amazed it’s passed me by for so long.

I sometimes think that’s the perfect guitar solo. It’s just so simple and tasteful and yet really elevates the song. Love Peter Buck’s playing so much.

I’m looking forward to the ‘Monster’ re-issue. Hopefully, there will be a 1995 show on the bonus disc.

I’ve a spare ticket for Michael Stipe’s Q&A thing at The ICA on Saturday. A friend of mine can’t make it. The ticket is a freebie.

Arggggh if I wasn’t dog sitting I would be SO up for this. (Dog sitting is pretty great though)

The same. Was massively disappointed by it at the time but I now seem to play it more than any of the others.

Have love for all of the albums, perhaps bar Around The Sun, although even that has ‘Leaving New York’.

Fav is Green. Would often walk across the common near my home listening to it, ™I built the walls and I will be the one to knock them down ".

The sweet melancholy of youth.

I bought the 7"of Drive as a young teen which, for some reason, had the lp version of World Leader Pretend on the b side.

The hours I used to spend in my room just listening to those two songs over and over and over again. Still love them both.

I never warmed to ATS. I honestly don’t care much for Leaving New York but I seem to be in the minority there.

Michael Stipe interview on Newsnight tonight

I dunno, remember Around the Sun having a critically lukewarm to negative reception on release. I may have rose tinted goggles because that was the tour I first saw them on but I thought there was some good songwriting on there.

Quite possible. Stipe always claimed the songs were good but the recordings didn’t do them justice. I always found it a bit of a slog on record.

Something really nice about seeing him tell a rubbish joke. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06jzy7z

Generally good, that, love him grilling the journo on Brexit.

But identity politics as “abhorrent”? :grimacing:

Missed it.

I “luckily” have Newsnight on series link. I’ll watch it later. Thanks for the heads up.
