that updated Simpsons quotes thread makes so much more sense now

Ik vil brood mit pindakaas

That Luftwafer thin ham they use these days sure leaves a nazi taste.

I’ll get me coat…

What examples? The first guy hasn’t responded, the second seems to have been a response to a lot of negative feedback, not Noche on their own.

The college food stuff doesn’t seem to be related to Noche’s podcast?

As far as I can tell she is just a springboard of a general article.

Your assertion that she’s just trying to raise her own profile is fucking ridiculous, mate. She’s clearly irritated by this thing and it’s been reported on by the BBC. Why is any situation of someone fighting against racism or sexism met with this sort of bollocks. Why is it so hard to imagine she might genuinely be upset by something? Look at the ā€˜petty things’ thread to find people pointing out stuff they find extremely irritating that they know others don’t even register. Is that thread just a bunch of people trying to ā€˜raise their profile’? FFS!

Not so much Dutch words, mostly Dutch names and places:

Amsterdam
Bergkamp
Van Gogh*
Grolsch
PSV
Kevin De Bruyne
etc.

are all pronounced in an anglicized way by the British. It’s just plain laziness. It reminds me of the 1998 World Cup game between South Korea and Holland, where the commentators made great efforts to learn how to pronounce the Korean players correctly, but mangled all of the Dutch ones.

*) don’t get me started on what Americans do to him.

Not even dutch, mate

As someone who speaks fluent English and Dutch i can safely say this simply isn’t true in the cases of Amsterdam and Bergkamp.

^bit racist

I agree. It is really not something that would cross my mind when looking at food pictures, when people try and get involved in different culture of course they are not going to get everything right it is a learning process. I am not saying they are wrong but in the same vein as ā€˜micro aggression’ I would describe this as acute sensitivity and wonder if the writer applies this to all parts of there life?

tapas with some bloody chips in it

You’re in Britain, everything comes with a side of chips. Lasagne and chips, steak and chips, omelette and chips, curry and chips, fish and chips, mash and chips. Better get used to it.

Obviously.

steak and chips!

there’s a persian restaurant near me which does some kind of stew with a ā€œchip garnishā€ which of course I ordered, and it just had a single chip floating on the top of it.

Is a chopstick in a dish really offensive? Is a colour? Is a piece of furniture not being straight? Or a number. Maybe sometimes there are just too many ruddy rules?
