Ha!
Was listening to that at the weekend and I’m not sure that planting someone a rose garden to lay their had on is a nice thing to do. Rose thorns are dangerous!
What’s the first album like, worth a listen? I realise it’s on spotify and I could just listen to it but I’m a busy man.
Not a clue - same position as you!
I’m sure I read a review that said the latest one was a big change of direction so I don’t want to wast my time listening to 12 Someone Out Theres.
First half of the album is great, especially that run of three singles. Gets a bit patchy after that in my opinion but it’s still a really good pop album.
Yeah I’ve been really enjoying g this since aphex and Adam talked about it in the Feb thread. Agree with some of the comments above that it’s does tail off a bit towards the end. But the the start of the record especially tracks 1-4 are excellent. She’s playing Glasgow soon, think I’ll go check her out. Although I’ll probably be he oldest person there by about 20years.
Yeah, been contemplating the Manchester gig but worried about the same… Who is the audience for this sort of thing? Like, is it big on Radio 1?
I was assuming a kinda radio 1 crowd.
I was hoping/expecting to like this more than I actually do. It’s decent, the first six tracks are pretty solid (Do It especially) but it fades quite badly after that. Reckon the record Shura released in 2016 was along similar lines but with much stronger songwriting and more personality - definitely check it out if you like this kind of stuff and haven’t heard it
I thought her debut was pretty underrated at the time, musically it is similar to a lot of the BBC Sound Of acts but I think her vocals and songwriting elevates it (This Time is a tune).
She’s playing the O2 Academy here in Oxford on Tuesday night now have two tickets!
Also not liking the first album. Seems to have had a revelation between that one and Someone Out There
Lovely album. It’s my AOTY so far. Everything about this album is very good, from the songs and her vocals to the artwork and the music videos.
I’ve had a couple of listens to the first album. There’s some really boring tracks on there (the last one in particular) but also some really good stuff. Do I hear a Kate Bush influence or am I imagining that?
I definitely heard some Kate Bush vibes on it, but not done particularly well and they didn’t elevate what is a fairly dull album imho. Best case scenario for me is that she just plays new album in it’s entirety (n.b. I realise the chances of this are incredibly slim)
I saw her on Friday and she played every song on the new album minus one I think.
For the record she is great live. Her voice really holds up. I would def recommend going to catch her on the current tour.
Just to say that she was incredible last night. Really deserves to be playing to more than a three-quarters full room that’s only about 300 capacity maximum. London folk - go catch her next week if you can!
And also just to say that the couple of tracks she played off the first album sounded SO much better live.
Also she finished with the track that must not be named so maybe everyone can sneak out before it? The likes it so I had to stay
You need to have a long hard think about your relationship, buddy
Love how Lower The Tone goes full on trance with a flute over the top. It’s basically psytrance for the masses.
Rae Morris is so underrated. She deserves way more attention. Her voice could change mid song in quite spectacular way:
