Blimey

they’ve only just reformed tbf but yeah, they were never that big at the time (I say this as someone who used to love the band)

Would be quite fun to see them do a set made up of when they had some proper punk bangers

A Reading headliner that I have never heard of, that might genuinely be a first.

:older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man::older_man:

I was saying this earlier. I mean I’ve heard of both Post Malone and 21 Pilots, but for the first time since I can remember there are headliners that I’ve never knowingly heard songs/music/whatever they do, by

When I was in NZ a couple of years ago, one of the chaps on our bus had a 21 pilots tattoo. The inquisitive music bore I am, looked them up on youtube expecting a few thousand plays from an underground emo band or something. I was met by hundreds upon hundreds of millions of plays and immediately felt ancient.

I would feel old if it wasn’t for some of weird choices like Bowling For Soup.

Fair play to the organisers who have realised what the target audience is and have realised that they can put any old rubbish lower down. Expect the bands that appeared on the America Pie soundtrack to be announced next year.

Some of these have to be made up names right?
Or did they just spell Billy Childish wrong?

Poll time:

  • This lineup is fine.
  • Amalgamate thread with terrible festival lineups thread.
  • Announce Pendulum already!

Par for the course though innit. Bands build legacies in their absence in part due to the bands they influenced causing a new generation to seek them out on streaming services, then they come back and all the people who’d never heard of them/were too young the first time around are mad keen, along with the OG crowd coming along for the nostalgia. Kinda what happened with Refused too.

The best piece of art Post Malone has been responsible for is this

have The Distillers built a legacy though? I didn’t even know they’d reformed until 2 weeks ago and that’s as someone who was a fan, I’ve not seen their name touted around

with Refused it’sa bit understandable as The Shape grew in stature, in part due to their breaking up, so when people who were too young for them at the time (also me) sees them mentioned in magazines, it does have an affect. I don’t know if Coral Fang has undergone a re-evaluation though?

I’m really interested to see how Hayley Kiyoko will go down with the Proper Haircuts Lads.

Certainly in the punk/emo circles I’m party to, it’s seen as a classic album in a way which it didn’t feel like it was being received at the time. I know a few people 10 or so years younger than me who are incredibly excited to finally see them live. And Noisey ran this recently: https://noisey.vice.com/en_ca/article/qv9mep/revisiting-the-distillers-coral-fang-15-year-anniversary

What I’ve found interesting is the critical eye that’s being cast over contemporaneous coverage of the album, which linked it to Rancid’d indestructible and was all very reductive and a bit sexist

He’s the keyboardist. Became a full fledged member in the last 6 months or something.

Don’t go with a 20-year-old mate

The Ventures? well up for that

She’ll do just fine. Sigrid and Dua Lipa both drew decent crowds this year and everyone had a great time.

Seemed like a few years ago they were slightly struggling to shift tickets on the scales they needed to, I guess partly because they were running out of their traditional bands and the fans they were pitching at had other alternatives.

Now seems like they’ve quite smartly just shoved that in the bin and gone for booking pretty big names from all over the spectrum, and it’ll probably sell out. Is terrifying how quickly I’ve become out of touch though - hasn’t been my thing for years but even 3 or 4 years ago I’d have known 75% or so of the lineup.
