A friend of mine works for Burberry on their handbags. They are high quality, the materials are hand-selected, it’s hand-finished and so on, but even with that amount of labour it’s probably only around £100-200 in costs.

They do focus groups where they show people the handbag and ask them how much they think it should cost (multiple choice: £800, £1500, £2000 was the example she gave IIRC).

People invariably pick the highest option, and when asked why, they say it’s because they want people to know they’ve got an expensive handbag.

Get yourself a bog standard Smeg and get someone to paint it. Someone not shit. You could surely do that for sub 3k

tbf it was meant to be 5k. I’ve only ridden it twice, I’m sure it will click. mainly the messy cables at the front are pissing me off.

How did I miss this underground pillow revolution?? I want in.

I think I’ve got a couple of spare ones?

Mate if it’s under £500 I don’t think you’re even legally allowed call it a guitar yknow. “Guitar-like product” maybe.

Could put some sweet decals on it ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ or ‘I Remember The Corned Beef Of My Childhood’ or summink.

Those are v classy

When it gets into really silly money, I suppose you could argue that ‘the experience of owning an expensive handbag’ is a legitimate thing to spend money on and if that’s value for money to you, then so be it.

There’s few things as satisfying in life as trying some ridiculous expensive guitar I’ve been lusting after for years because X player uses it, and realising I actually don’t like it at all, doesn’t suit me and I can take it right off my dream list. Feels like a legit weight off me, even though I was never close to buying it in the first place - brains are weird.

JFC bookshop privilege in action! (Lucky sod)

I was close to getting a Thurston Moore sig Jazzmaster but that was for my 21st so wasn’t all my money. Have tried a few wild Custom Shop Teles that always give me the itch but couldn’t see myself ever spending over £2k on a new guitar. USed market baybaaay

Eh I can see that and obviously you’ve been up close to it, but I’m going to spend money on hear regardless - it’s inevitable hah. And while it’s fun having loads of weird various guitars, I got annoyed by having 10+ and having no space and never playing some etc. So I’d rather consolidate that money into one or two nicer ones, which then can take me into the £1k-2k bracket.

(Currently have an AVRI JM that cost £750 used so I’ve hardly even got close to the areas we’re talking about)
