Been browsing this thread on Geoff from Beak/Invada/Portishead’s insta and it got me thinking of an old thread and some of our end of year threads where people share one focussed recommendation that you think fellow DiSsers would like
Here’s the format
One Artist per user per week
Write or quote at least one sentence to intrigue / describe the act
One track (YouTube/Soundcloud/Bandcamp/etc)
No self-promotion
No other rules (it can be brand new, old, obvious, obscure, etc)
Looking forward to hearing what you all share and if this thread format works, maybe can have a version focussed on new acts or genres or other vectors
This new release randomly popped up on a playlist the other day, and I instantly loved it. AnalogueTrash described the song as “a motorik take on a dream pop, with shades of Stereolab and Slowdive”.
Got pleasantly lost in this record recently, a hypnotic series of jazz fusion jams based on the roots music of the Dominican Republic led by a 64 year old guitarist and composer Toné Vicioso, who has over 40 years’ experience exploring Dominican musical heritage.
A sensuous Scandinavian daydream of tropical breezes and gently swaying palm trees, but with a deeper undercurrent of moody disillusion flowing just below the tideline
Haunting in all the best ways, as if Kelly Lee Owens had a Ukrainian cousin. Saw her at Tallinn Music Week a few weeks ago and can’t stop thinking about the show, she’d definitely be right at home signed to Sacred Bones or Invada.
Don’t think this instrumental track from 37 minutes is online anywhere but it’s extraordinary
