record.club - any DiSsers using this?

Sounds interesting, on the waitlist. Hopefully the emphasis is more on the social side as RYM is already incredible at what it does.

I’ve still got one invite if anyone wants it.

:raising_hand_man: if you don’t mind!

I’ve DM’d you.

Lots of things to like here. The UI is brilliant, and the app on macOS is really nice. Clean and aesthetically pleasing, kind of like Apple Music but less cluttered which I’m a fan of.

It seems to integrate directly with musicbrainz so there’s no communal ā€˜build’ requirement with onerous approval rounds like on RYM, so it feels far more simplistic and clean. I think a mobile app is in the works too.

The ā€˜reviews’ feature is being used far more casually in a way you would expect from typical social media. This is nice as it encourages more whimsical thoughts to be shared without the pressure of drafting a detailed review.

The big downside is the user base. Not enough people rating or reviewing anything. When you expand on that to look at more niche releases, such as anything electronic, it’s all a bit tumbleweed.

I’m not convinced it’s doing enough differently to gain traction yet, but it is very promising and satisfying to use / navigate. I think if they can build out the social elements and make it feel more like what was lost when last.fm did away with the message boards, they could be on to something good.

Have just had an invite this morning. Looks very promising. Few issues with the search, needs refining. Maybe a weighting on artist popularity.

But the main thing I personally need is a lastfm important. Been scrobbling since 2006. Would really like to do something new with that data.

Got my invite through this morning. It’s made a strong enough first impression to warrant manually migrating across a chunk of my data from Musicboard.

Doesn’t seem like an android app is on the horizon but the PWA version of the site works quite well.

Agree with search being the weakest part of the offering. Just doesn’t seem to be as optimised as it should be.

Signed up for Musicboard last week too and added a bunch of stuff. Looked at both this morning and added new things I’d listened to since Friday and…do I really want to update 3 different sites now? I don’t feel like I’m stepping away from RYM anytime soon so unless I ever make that decision there’s no way I’m going to keep all 3 of these updated (and continue to enter the rest of my collection).

Both have much better UIs than RYM (low bar) but…it’s a lot of work to start something like that over.

Got a bit stung by the fact that you both can and cannot have more than 100 albums in a list as I migrated 150 albums across from Musicboard. Feels like something they’ll resolve over time but for now I need to reassess my options. Tried tags, not going to work for what I want. Answer may be to break my CD collection list into one for each decade.

Maybe worth sending the owners this thread for feedback?

Have 3 invites available if wanted.

Please could I have one?

I’ve just messaged you the invite code.

Got 3 invites too if anyone wants one.

Happy enough with what the app offers and can live with its current limitations but I’m concerned that the level of engagement just isn’t there and I’ll have to return to Musicboard or just give up in trying to find ā€œLetterboxd but for musicā€ altogether if it doesn’t take off.

Me please!

I have 3 invites as well if anyone wants one.

Haven’t really looked at it all yet tbh but will get on it.

Letterboxd is brilliant because of the community, I know this is currently in ā€˜beta’, but most of my favourite albums have 0 ratings. Even huge new releases have under 100, so it’s just not a very interesting database, community or information source - yet at least.

I cross checked against RYM, AOTY and Musicboard and they all have significantly more activity, with RYM having several hundred times more ratings for any given album. Obviously this is in its infancy so needs to be given time, but it’s a long way off being interesting for anything niche.

I am loving the labels feature though - following them all and seeing new releases in the feed works really nicely.

What are all of your accounts? Let’s follow each other

Very much agree with all of this.

Songs of a Lost World is the 10th ā€œmost popularā€ album on there at the moment and it’s only got 98 listeners.

It does feel like it has the potential to be that ā€œLetterboxd of musicā€ where an active community takes it’s utility to a whole other level though.

Whether it can gain that level of traction is impossible to predict. Looks like it’s really only operating as this closed beta for over 6 months so that’s encouraging.
