I have that it’s great.

(Admittedly I didn’t pay for it- got it from my grandparent’s house. My grandad shelled out for that to listen to his collection of about 5 Shirley Bassey records after his old stereo died. Only the best for Shirley.)

Was going to be an easy present for my gf to get me but £100 was the cutoff! Will have a look on gumtree or eBay for a used player

Might buy it when I have a bit of cash in the summer…

my record player is busted. its a good 20 years old or something, my grandparents bought it out of the back of readers digest and i remember loving it when they got it. when my grandad died it was in his will for us all to cut a pack of cards to decide an order of who chooses what to have (aces high). i got the record player that was tucked behind the settee and everyone was amazed, theyd never even noticed it til i dug it out. anyway the speakers have been weird for a couple of years, sometimes you have to sort of tune in the volume like its a radio station or something, but the other week the turntable started slowing and then stopped altogether. its prob the motor? or the belt? or something. but i dont know why the speakers are weird as well. i should prob figure out the make and model first

(There is also a rega planner 2 for £70 that doesn’t come with a tone arm, is this a problem)

well. it means you would need to buy a tone arm and a cartridge.

Easy enough to get - but you won’t be able to buy those too and stay in bydget

Fairly happy with the sound and needle pressure, but it has started to play slightly fast, luckily there are rpm apps so it should be easy to fix when I get around to it.

Bought the aeroplane flies high cd box set recently, the simplicity of putting in a cd to a reasonable mini Hifi has made me regret getting into vinyl collection

do you not have any charity shops near you that sell 2nd hand electrical goods?

There’s always decent record players/turntables/hi-fi/speakers in my local charity shops - usually really good quality ones that people have put in the attic 30 years ago and then been donated in a move or whatever

usually they just need a new stylus

Would you also need an amp and speakers to come out of the budget? If so, unless you find a second hand stack deck, you may struggle to find something for under 100 quid.

(I also recommended Rega products - I have the RP1 turntable and a discontinued Brio amp and they are both great).

Just to join the REGA love in… I thought nothing would replace my technics when it died but my RP1 (with the carbon cartridge) is so so lovely.

try & get direct drive instead of belt drive or you may end up trying to source a belt that is no longer in manufacture

having said that, I bought a really nice Technics SL-23 years ago for about a fiver because it ‘didn’t work’ when actually all it needed was a new belt which cost about £3 inc p&p

Already got an amp and speakers… speakers cost £20 off eBay and are pretty decent considering that!

I got a Rega RP3 (I think, either that or a P3. I’ll check when I get in) and a Marantz amp off of a friend for £65. Running it through some very old (circa 1975) Cambridge Audio speakers. Love it

My one input here (as much of the rest has been covered) is ABSOLUTELY BUY A CARBON FIBRE BRUSH to dust your records before play.

I used to have a TT like yours, and I didn’t really like it soundwise, but it does a fairly good job if your records are completely dust free.

There is a really good one in Brighton - he will recondition old turntables and sell them on
