Well I had fun. Got the Bowie 3xLP live album, the Laura Marling live album and the Cribs MNWNW reissue. Then we went for a fry up and I had a big sleep. Now my turntable seems to have broken. I hope you all find happiness in your lives

Yeah I’ve been to Norman Records the last few years - hassle free service.

Didn’t bother this year, partly due to not much I was interested in, partly because Norman made it so easy and I couldn’t be bothered with the cluster-fuck of somewhere else. Shame!

Called into VoxBox and Assai Records and got Flaming Lips, Lou Reed and Blackstreet. Was after Placebo, Toto and SFA too but couldn’t find them anywhere. Not bad going all the same!

Same old sniff every year. Wait a few months on stuff like this and they’ll be regular priced or better yet the stuff will get a repress like how Radio head did with the Butcher 12". Still sickening.

Did that get a repress? Never knew that. I remember being disappointed I slept in and missed out on it but they ended up putting them out as a free download for anyone who’d bought TKOL so didn’t really care anymore

Went along around half four. Had two beers. Bought the Actress album and the Radian album.

There was a guy cutting live acetates.

Yep a few months later I believe - no idea how many were pressed but remember a lot of people being very glad to get it.

I love the Record Cafe but it’s definitely more of a bar with a bit of a record shop, than the other way round.

Went to Wellington’s best record store (Slow Boat, obviously) and watched a couple of local bands. Picked up the new CD by one of them (Teeth, a Phoenix Foundation side project) and a Paul Kelly record. Wasn’t anything much of interest in terms of actual RSD releases, though I was tempted by the Lou Reed live - was it any good, @cutthelights?

It did. I remember going to a record fair a week after that rsd and some nincompoop was try to sell the butcher for £70-£80 odd. It didn’t have a price tag, so I had to ask for this information. I was pretty smug in my response, stating I was fine in my inclination to wait a few weeks and purchase it off wastedotcom. unfortunately he knew his business and slapped me with some undeniable collectors pressing information, which I would have listened to, had I not already have been walking off laughing

I got one but now I’m annoyed because the ‘book box’ thing, while very nice, isn’t £46 nice and I’d be just as happy with a standard edition. My fault for not checking beforehand…

I went to Wah Wah Records in Wakefield (a great little treasure troves for new and second hand vinyl). Wasn’t bothered about the crazy expensive RSD official releases so headed there in the afternoon saw a couple of instore sets. Picked up a couple of 7"s including The Orielles’ Space Doubt which I’ve been trying to find for a while. Then went for a pint in the sun. Decent afternoon and great to see the shop nice and busy.

I bought Damn. by Kendrick Lamar on CD. Gonna flip it for £10.

Whilst I get the whole support the independent record shop thing RSD is a bit of a Xmas style farce. You have to get up far to early and you may still get beaten to what you want. Sure it’s great to see record shops busy but most other times they are totally empty staving off being put out of business.
Maybe all vinyl should be limited to the sale and size of the respective artist i.e a run of 1000. These releases should be initial releases and re-issues should be held back on. This should apply all year round to keep the shops alive. A copy of This Is Hardcore (Pulp) from the 90’s on vinyl would set you back over £100 until a re-issue which will halve that value immediately which seems daft. Good to see people digging in the 2nd hand boxes and car boot sales but a RSD Elastica reissue being sold on eBay for around £80 already shows what RSD signifies to most - money.
