I just felt a bit caged but then it did take me quite a while to click with the game. Maybe if I was to play through it again, it’d be more tolerable.

I think it’s worth redoing, I was blown away by it as an achievement in “tutorials” which is a weird thing to think I guess but I remember very much thinking that.

The opening to RDR2 is definitely too long. Not had the pleasure of playing BOTW yet but Zelda OOT’s tutorial I still find fun even though I’ve done it 50 times. Technically the first dungeon is part of the tutorial but I mean the bit before you even meet the Deku tree. Still love shouting ‘Fuck you Mido!’ when he has to let you past (though I do always feel bad for him at the end).

it turned into an uncharted game for no discernible reason. for the 2 hours or so between the start of the bank job and finally leaving guarma it felt like my only task was to push the correct button when instructed to in order to trigger yet another animation/cut scene. just like a naughty dog game. glorified QTEs. the whole thing was laughably shite. it’s properly soured me on playing anymore, it rammed home just how little freedom or creativity this open world actually affords you.

Have you played on? I would’ve appreciated a heads up before all that and what comes after, because my enjoyment of the exploring and hunting has now been handicapped. Lots of people seem to really enjoy the game, so I feel like a bit of whining so and so, and maybe it’s just a way to merge the free roam and the story aspects, but it’s soured it a bit for me.

Played a big chunk of this today. The world and graphics are such an unbelievable achievement, it’s just that the variety of what you can do within it and the core gameplay is a disappointment. Good game but 8/10 at best.

The missions are the worst bit. I get that they move the story along, but they’re generally pretty formulaic.

I think if the gunplay was a bit more tight and fun then it wouldn’t be so bad but it just feels so slow and clunky. I don’t want to be too down on it as I’ve had fun and, as I say, it just looks and feels amazing - like a real place, but I can see me completing it and trading it. Not tried the multiplayer at all.

Have made it to chapter 4 and whilst only maybe playing a couple of times a week, I’m still hugely enjoying it. I dip into the storyline missions from time to time, but for the most part am very happy doing my own thing. For a map that I thought I’d explored in detail, it’s amazing how many things I’m still discovering - managed to miss a train wreck on my first couple of laps so only stumbled on that in the last week, then had fun trying to find out if I could get into it.

Am a big fan of the trapper and the horrendous clothes he can craft so have spent a ridiculous amount of time hunting - get some pretty funny comments about my outfits when I hit town. Also like the fact that the world has been changing over time - those guys building the house near Valentine have finished :grinning:

Still haven’t dragged someone 3000m or whatever with the lasso though.

I’m really loving this. I feel like this game is what Shenmue hinted at. Thoroughly enjoying just taking it super, super slow. I feel like I’ve possibly done a bit too much exploration / side-missioning because I finally did the Rev. Swanson poker mission and it just felt like a tutorial for gameplay mechanics I’d learnt 10 hours ago. I also completed the Jim Calloway quests and there’s no resolution it just says the storyline will pick back up later.

Feel myself leaning towards being a good, honourable Arthur, although I did decide to hogtie a mad preacher and throw him in the river to put him out of his misery and it’s a testament to how good the game is that I genuinely felt guilty, reinforced by my honour rating taking a hit. Would be fun to have another playthrough down the line where I just play as a despicable badass.

I could never ever get that one - no matter how hard i tried

On chapter 5, if I focus on just doing the story missions how long has this game still got in store for me?

Has anybody played online properly? I’m sad now that I’ve finished and I don’t feel like there’s really much for me to do other than hunt and ride about. Can I still try to find the serial killer? The Dino bones? The cigarette cards? I guess I could load an old save and carry on that way to do things I’ve missed.

So, I’ve just started playing this and have (hopefully) finished the first snowy chapter. Given that a) I’ve hardly touched my Xbox One so far, b) the last cutting-edge FPS/sandbox game I played was GTA:Vice City and c) I still consider the N64 with controller the pinnacle of gaming, I’m reaaalllly struggling with the controls. The game says ‘press whichever to do whatever’ and I keep yelling I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT BUTTON IS STUPID MAN! at the telly. Man, I’ve no idea how I survived that first shoot-out at the Adler lady’s house (one stick moves me and the other aims my gun? What is this sorcery???) So, help me out world: what is the ‘i’ button on my Xbox pad the game keeps telling me to use?

That ones easy ! Do it on a mountain road and just go back and forth on yourself

Any hint as to what it’s telling you to do? You sure it’s an ‘i’ and not an ‘L’ (both the left and right thumb sticks can be pressed as buttons in addition to the others)?

my mate lent me this last night. Going to see if I enjoy being a cowboy

How we all getting on? Im still only at like 54%.

Have found the serial killer, vampire, bear in the cabin and nite folk

64%, chapter six. Found serial killer, night folk and a load of other stuff

Oh and the bear too
