Looks like Rega have launched a very simple “Pro” upgrade for the Rega Carbon which was always included with the Planar 1 and 2.
I know the Carbon is just a cheap, white-labelled Audio Technica cart with a “spherical” stylus but it’s a decent sounding one. Never really had any complaints and I always preferred the way my Rega sounded compared to my old Pro-Ject Essential that had an OM 10 cart and “elliptical” stylus.
Anyway, back on point, it looks like the Rega Carbon Pro is an elliptical upgrade that you can just pop right on the existing cart. I’ve gone for it just out of curiosity tbh, as I’m probably due a new stylus.
I know the Goldring E3 is another choice for the Planar 1 but I really can’t be arsed to mess with cart alignments as I’m quite clumsy.
Anybody reckon this’ll be an alright upgrade? Guess I’ll find out soon.
My only complaint with the standard Rega Carbon is the rare case of inner groove distortion.
