Reheating rice

Apparently reheating rice can like, KILL YOU.

Didn’t know this until I had reheated some rice for a leftover dinner and mentioned it to my sister and she had a crap attack, as Tina Belcher would say.

Is it just a myth we shouldn’t take too seriously, or is reheated rice the new silent killer?

I’m never not reheating rice. My current status: ALIVE

It’s potentially more dodgy than you’d imagine, but if it wasn’t left out at room temperature for too long before reheating I believe it’s ok

It can grow a bad bacteria or something but nothing a solid reheat in the microwave can’t sort out. I do it all the time.

I believe the issue is in how it’s been cooled and stored. If you want to reheat it, make sure it goes in the fridge quickly. Make sure it’s properly hot when you reheat it to prevent anything new growing in it, but don’t expect heat to kill any nasties that are already in it.

My partner feeds me reheated rice frequently, should I be worried?

This is incorrect - heat won’t kill the stuff you need to be worried about in rice

I make egg fried rice loads, which is basically boiled rice that has been left to dry out and is then reheated. Not died or got the shits just yet.

I’ve never reheated egg fried rice though.

Recently I’ve heard that it is better to cook rice, let it go cold and then reheat it before eating and that this is better for you than just eating it as soon as it is cooked. I’m not joking about this.

Never hurt me to eat rice heated up days after or just cold the next day. Not saying it cant happen but im basically the hulk cheers.

I thought it’s best to let food cool down fully in room temp before putting it in the fridge!?
