Return of Drowned in Sound (2024 Version)

You might have noticed that Drowned in Sound’s editorial has been on a reflective pause since 2019.

We’ve been pondering what a fully rejuvenated DiS would look like in the years to come. The good news? We’re so (slowly coming) back!

While we’re still shaping our bigger comeback in 2024/25, we’re thrilled to add to our much-loved podcast and independent label releases, a brand-new newsletter to add a weekly dose of DiS to your inbox.

There will be a monthly pile of music recommendations alongside new essays and an internet digest of things to see, read and hear.

The newsletter, available on our revamped site powered by Ghost, will feature two free editions per month (including one packed with must-hear music) and two exclusive editions for our valued supporters.

Each month, we’ll also showcase a guest essay alongside an extended piece by me - Sean Adams, founder of Drowned in Sound back in October 2000.

Our vision? To commission 50 thought-provoking essays and articles next year, while continuously enhancing our podcast.

Then what? We might dive into the world of print magazines, as we sense the “vinyl moment” for journals is just around the corner.

Sign up at drownedinsound.org and browse some of our recent bits and bobs.

Would like to support this. Should I assume that my payment is completely separate to the money I contibute towards the boards?

Wow this is exciting and great news. Will support.

Yes. If that’s ok. We’ve raised enough to cover the boards for a while now and people supporting the boards are unlikely to want to support the editorial but I’ll be getting in touch separately about that.

Thank you

When will you start accepting pitches?

I’ve commissioned something for March and April, and going to take it slow before getting deluged (as I only have a few hours a week to do this at the moment) and ensuring I can afford to pay everyone.

Will definitely post when I’m accepting pitches.
