I try not to waste too much energy on him, but his last good standup was in 2003. He’s made nineteen films, none of them worth watching. The Ricky Gervais Show on XFM ended in 2005. The Office concluded in 2003, Extras finished in 2007. Why’s someone who’s done nothing of note in any field for over fifteen years still so venerated?

Because there is a paying audience of people who define themselves by liking things that upset/offend their friends/relatives/colleagues. Yet like you say Gervais is so irrelevant nobody in the demographic of people who might be “offended” by him takes any notice other than to take the piss once in a blue moon. Which he and his disciples then take as stone cold irrefutable proof that he is dropping truth bombs so gargantuan that those people are “offended” because they can’t accept his truth, and therefore the money machine keeps whirring.
(You will notice that actually being funny and making people laugh does not appear anywhere here, because that is not what he or his fans want)
He is a sad pathetic cunt who is kept rich by other sad pathetic cunts. I suppose labelling them all as such only proves I am “triggered”

Can’t remember if it was twitter or reddit but I’d seen a comment yesterday that in the office Chris Finch was a character you were meant to find a joke and laugh at whereas now Gervais is making comedy for the all the Finchies out there now
