Utterly gutted, big part of my late teens / early twenties and into more ‘alternative’ music in general. Astounding songwriting and one of those guys who could bottle a single thought or melody and make it seem unique and huge. And everything was just so him. Even named an art’s club in school after this tune:
so so sad
I’ve listened to the Sparklehorse + Flaming Lips cover so many times, but it was nice to listen to the original again.
never heard Life in Vain before watching that video earlier. the album version is great too. wow.
Another great American songwriter gone. These are dark days indeed.
Start each day with a clean slate You’ll feel better if you can shake off all that hate And don’t forget to forgive and forget Don’t let the sun go down on your grievances
This song has given me so much comfort through some of the shittiest times. RIP Daniel.
A nice story here from Leagues, who brought Daniel to Ireland in the late 2000s.
Fuck, this is so sad.
So much of his work was understatedly beautiful and simple. Genius of a songwriter.
Going to quietly reflect today and indulge myself in his catalogue.
Really sad about this. I never got to see him play but I found his story quite inspirational. true love will find you is beautiful.
Nice little story here from Tony Wright too (VerseChorusVerse, ex-ASIWYFA)
That was an amazing show and Daniels humanity and warmth really shone through. I have the gig poster from that night framed in my house.
“True Love…” sounds like it was recorded on a £10 guitar in his bedroom, but just shows how honesty is everything in music. A beautiful beautiful song. RIP.
wasn’t there sadly, was living back home at the time. shame, might have considered heading along if i’d been around.
This always brings a tear to my eye…
i won’t lie, this one has fucked me up a bit mates
I forgot what an incredible song that is
been revisiting this lovely cover album
