Huge figure in British folk with the Watersons and Waterson/Carthy family and such a distinctive voice – Eliza Carthy (her daughter) had been crowdfunding recently as both Norma and Martin had seen all their income dry up completely during covid, and it seems she’d been hospitalised for some time with pneumonia.
Really sad, I loved Norma’s voice.
There’s a great podcast called Folk On Foot that Eliza Carthy appeared on, they go to her home in Robin Hoods Bay and at one point the family including Norma gather round the kitchen table and sing Lal’s Some Old Salty, there’s a bit of it in this, it’s amazing.
This is a lovely tribute
Yeah that’s really great
rest in peace
I’ve meant to dig deeper into the Watersons in general for a while. love all of this. the sort of voices you feel in your bones.
