Watership Down is such a stone cold classic book. It will thrill and terrify children for ever.
Watership Down is one of my favourite books of all time. I don’t think there’s any other work that comes close to combining a brilliantly realised internal world with that innate love of the English countryside. It’s one of the touchstones I always reach for when I talk or write about what good fantasy looks like.
Lad had a great innings and died peacefully so similarly to Cohen this shouldn’t be viewed as a tragedy, but still - it does jar to hear about one of the defining figures of my childhood go.
